Hot Carl, Find your way over to the Saints board more often. There's far too much ignorance on here.

During the draft last year, my opinion was that Sidney Rice > Meachem, Z. Miller > Meachem and Olsen > Meahem.
I really liked Posluszny and though he was a tad bit better pick than Meachem, but would have chosen him because he filled a greater need and was not a reach at that point.
Branch was/is a gamble and everyone knew it. I though Houston would do something, but he did the same thing as U. Young, so we really don't know about him. Everyone knew Staley would be good, they just didn't think this good this quick coming from a small school.
In all honesty, the Meachem pick puzzled me as it did many on this board at the time. I absolutely would have taken these guys before Meachem.

I was disappointed when the Saints made this pick, not surprised when he was a bust last year and am not expecting him to do much this year. I always thought he was overrated even going back to Tenn. However, I am high on Arrington. I think he is going to contribute this year and turn out to be a great player in this league
+1.

Carl , I stand by my opinion just like you have yours. Check your Tenn. highlights and see how many busted coverages, missed tackles and poor decisions by db's led to his big plays. I can recall at least 2 plays in one game and at least 2 more when simple 5 and outs with missed tackles led to 60 or 70 yard td's.

Arrington reminds a lot of people of Colston.I say right now that Arrington outplays Meachem this year. He was a stud for Michigan last year.

Besides Carl, I don't think anybody including the Saints knew Arrington would be there in the 7th. That's why they gave up a 6 next year to get him.Speaking of value here. Meachem slid into the 20's, maybe some other GM's weren't too high on him. I think as other posters stated, there were other options there which I think would have worked better.

Meachem 1232 yards receiving 14 TD's starting pro bowl receiver this year. Book it!

If we can get 50+ catches out of him this year, that will really help out. I believe he will surprise people this year. He wont make the pro bowl but he will open eyes.

Also, Alan Branch and Chris Houston who did nothing last year.
After I heard the Saints may be going for a WR, I was crossing my fingers for Dwayne Bowe to fall to the Saints since most of the draft analysts rated Dwayne Jarrett higher than Bowe and Meachem. After Bowe was taken, I wanted Alan Branch to help our pass rush. As predicted, our pass rush did end up sucking really bad but now we have Ellis.

I'm with you. Meachem is a bust until he proves otherwise. No matter what he does this year he was a first round pick that sat on the bench, that's a fact.

What do you think makes big plays in the Pros? Its mostly missed tackles and busted coverages. Success is also being able to take advantage of stuff like that.

So Carson Palmer, by your logic, is also a huge bust

50 catches for 300 yards??????? You realize that's 6 yards a catch...that would go down as quite possibly the worst ypc in the history of the nfl

I didn't think Bowe would fall to the Saints and didn't think Craig Davis would ge picked until the middle of the second. I was kinda hoping for Sidney Rice to be the pick if we went WR, but was really hoping for a TE like Olsen or Miller.
Branch was a gamble, but the only D lineman around at that point and I think he was a DE/DT tweener if I remember correctly.

That's not really fair. People judge too quickly in this fast paced give it to me today society. Farve didn't play for a season and a half. Was he a bust? Chirs Carter caught less than 100 passes his first four seasons and now is one of only four or so WR to have a 1000 receptions. Is he a bust?
How about Steve Young?
quote:How did that work out?
When the Buccaneers selected University of Miami quarterback Vinny Testaverde first overall in the 1987 NFL Draft, Young was deemed a bust and traded to the San Francisco 49ers on April 24, 1987, to serve as a backup to Joe Montana.
Stars get to start and play well in their rookie seasons. A majority of players take three or four years to mature and develop though.

honestly, I didn't like that Meachem sat like that last season, but I think the kid redeems himself this year.
