It is a traditional condition among Hispanic community that originated in Spain. I dated a woman 2 years ago and we went to her friend's house for NYE. Her friend is from Honduras. She had 12 grapes for all of us. At the strike of midnight you eat one grape for every chime. It is to bring good luck for each month. Eating it under a table is to bring luck in love.
This was the first time I had heard of that tradition. It was different.

I was at a party last year hosted by Spanish people and they passed out 12 grapes per person. I had never heard of it before.

My parents shove 12 grapes in their mouth, fill a suitcase with money, step over the threshold and walk to the sidewalk and back pulling the suitcase.
Cracks all of us up ….. but they sure do travel a lot each year.
