Well even if the husband did it or whatever a kid could absolutely do that damage with some sort of object like a bat.

I got mad one time at my parents an shot out some windows with a bb gun. I was about 10.

I just imagine everything tossed in the back all willy nilly and then being shocked when the contents somehow looked like they were put in a drying machine.
