Wow. Easy there, turbo. Calm down.
My husky I grew up with that had a strong prey drive with other animals, we brought a kitten home and she developed milk and nursed him like he was her puppy. We adopted another adult cat later on and she was fine with her too. She would, however, chase rabbits or squirrels and kill them and she would immediately go after any other dogs that were not our second dog— her sister beagle/terrier mix. She would fight our other dog on occasion over food. Happened maybe 3 times or so over the 10 years or more we had both dogs. But with the cats we had, the husky was great.

If my dogs killed my cat, they would have been gone ASAP.
You have an autistic child or any child in this environment and that’s scary to me.

Are you a real person? Is this real?
Get rid of the dogs, now, before they hurt your son. This is absolutely a no brainer situation. You are not a good dog owner as evidenced by this entire thread. You failed the older dog and it unfortunately should probably be put down. It’s violent and it’s already killed another pet and maimed the other dog.
Get rid of both dogs immediately and if you must get another dog, which you shouldn’t, get a very small house dog and take some obedience and training classes.
Please get rid of your dogs before they hurt your son.

First, I'm so sorry about your cat. Second, assuming you know what happened to your cat without witnessing it is not logical and it would be unfair to abandon a pet whose entire life revolves around your household because of that assumption. Are your dogs spayed? (Hormones do make bitches crazy) Regardless, they should be treated as equals and rewarded for coexisting peacefully and/or separated from the potential stressors (people food) together. Despite other comments, as someone who has worked in the veterinary field for years, I'd say trust your instincts about possible aggressive behavior toward members of your human family.

Knowing that the older killed the house cat inside if the house is a huge red sign as in " Maybe I should get rid of her before she hurts my child".
idk if i'd see a dog killing a cat as a sign that it would be aggressive to humans. I've had plenty of hunting dogs that never showed aggression to humans but would shred a cat in a heartbeat.
OP: is there any way to keep them separated? at 11 years old seems like the old gal wouldn't mind sleeping the day away in a spare bedroom or something.

Stop dropping food on the floor.

LSU Vet School has great dog behavior resources. Not sure what they are called, but are basically dog psychiatrists. I would consult with one of them.

And you’re a dumb motherfricker. Which doesn’t surprise me.

This is an absolutely horrible comparison. Your hunting dogs didn't live inside like a family pack. Dogs are pack animals and there is a family structure. A pet, living inside, is part of the intimate family. The cat was part of that family pack so the dog killing the cat was a disrespect to all of the family. Keep in mind the cat lived with the dog for a long time so the dog knew it was part of the family. A hunting dog doesn't have a cat sibling they are around everyday. If the dogs are snapping at each other over dropped food it's only a matter of time before the autistic son gets bit holding food. The owner has never drawn a line by making the dogs stay away while the humans eat.

The people down voting you are the ones that hate facing hard cold facts.
I'm a huge animal lover but the OP responsibility is to his child ... period. I would be devastated if I had to re-home my dogs but it would be worse doing nothing and having my child hurt. Another solution would be to put the dogs outside in a fenced back yard.

Then you're the first hunter I've ever met that his hunting dogs lived inside. You also never raised them around a cat. I just don't believe you sorry.

You must not know many hunters.

What do you not believe? That my hunting dogs slept inside or that they liked to eat cats?

If you really want to get rid of the issue have this poster do a prediction thread showing both dogs live until they are 30. They will be gone within the week
A few years ago, I made a keith jackson thread on the msb. He died 3 days later.
