The problem I've got is that Mrs4LSU2 has been eyeing the 15 model Tahoes as well.
What Mrs4LSU2 wants Mrs4LSU2 gets. You know that.

I though hill descent was only on the diesels?
GMC and Chevy have it on all new four wheel drive trucks with low range (although I'm not sure about the new Colorado or Canyon). The Land Cruiser, Lexus LX, and some Jeep products have it as well.
It's really for going down very steep hills off road at a very low speed in low range without losing control or breaking traction. Probably not incredibly useful in south Louisiana, but definitely nice for off roading in more hilly areas or in the mountains. I think the Toyota and GM systems are ABS brake based. Not sure what Jeep uses.
This is not the same as that downshifting/engine breaking feature in the GM trucks. That's a towing related feature that controls highway speeds downhill. It utilizes engine breaking to keep the truck under control.

The fact that a bunch of Louisiana guys would even mention this is hilarious. Unless you work at the landfill you won't be seeing many hills.
