Theres nothing but plots of the average lifespan going up, pretty much linearly. Due to better materials and more precise manufacturing.
I wonder about the average age of some of the posters here. I'm not 50, and had to do shite like push start cars, spray carb fluid to get them started, etc. Never happened with a car after I bought after 2001.

My first car was in 1990, and it was the first model of the 4 door 4runner. We have had a toyota in my immediate family ever since. It doesn't make me happy to hear what I have in this thread.

It’s mostly middle aged dudes who doom scroll the internet all day. They’re convinced everything is getting shittier even when presented with concrete evidence otherwise. Plenty of people here yearn for the days of 172hp big blocks.

My boss has a 2025 I think that piece of shite has been in the shop more than on the road.

Happy not to be included with that group.

If it only burns a qt every thousand you had a good engine

major truck manufacturers are having engine issues
Meh. Right now the only half ton truck motors (other than the Tundra) that I would avoid is the Ford 3.5L with the new gas particulate filters and the L87 6.2L GM V8.
But I’d feel way more comfortable in either one of those than the Toyota V35A twin turbo V6. Toyota is just seeing way more issues than the others relative to how many are sold. I hope they fixed the design issue because it’s starting to do some real damage to their reputation.
As far as the other trucks….all of them offer multiple engine options.
I’m actually shocked at how well the new Turbomax four banger is doing with GM considering it’s often in work trucks. 150,000 miles on that thing is not a big deal, and you can find plenty of examples with over 180,000 miles for sale. I would have sworn it would be a boat anchor by then but it’s proving itself very well as a light duty truck engine.
The little diesel 3.0L from GM isn’t bad either. I am still not a fan of light duty diesels but this one seems to be mostly solid by modern diesel standards.
The newer L84 5.3L is also proving to be way better than the shitty L83 5.3L GM It’s easy to find 3-4 year old high mileage examples - certainly easier to find than 3rd gen Tundras with 180,000+ miles.
The Hurricane Ram I-6 is another one that I didn’t expect to be as good as it has been. Some issues early on but it’s holding up surprisingly well. Still early but this might end up being one of the better half ton truck engines. And Ram has a V8 for those of us that like the sound and feel of a non turbo engine.
I also expected all the Ford engines with the wet oil pump to suck but they are doing pretty well. I still don’t like wet belts but they seem to have figured out how to make these last. The 5.0L Ford is one of my favorites now and it has a wet oil pump belt.

What is the general consensus on this vehicle?
might want to wait a year to verify the engine issues are resolved...supposedly that should have happened w/ the 25's...not enough time has passed to verify the issue has been resolved

What Toyota has done to the body style is so awful. They look terrible now
On the bright side, it no longer looks like a hideous 2005 Dodge truck.

Concrete evidence of engines being recalled. There isnt a single half ton truck built today that will last 20 years. They don't make them to last. They make them to sell.

No context to your comment and I'm the moron. Sure.

My 5.0 Ford F150 is better than either my 08 or 20 Tundra.
Ehh, to each their own but 5.0 have been plagued by issues as well. The old 5.7 is superior in every way
