Should. Not is.

Elections have consequences and we keep electing people who run on bending over for big business.

I think people are just doing a bad job of sharing their opinion if they are "against data centers"

Most are just against data centers taking more than they pay for.

100%

Hence why it is almost assured that the LA taxpayer will get the shaft in this deal.

Exactly.

I would have zero issues with this if these data centers were paying for their own power stations and infrastructure and the impact on the surrounding citizens was guaranteed to be either zero or positive.

We all know that isn’t the case.

I view these situations in the same light as the building of new sports arenas.

Massive multi-billion dollar corporations demand that the citizens fork over the money to build them, while they receive almost all of the profit.

That parasitic relationship needs to end.

ETA…most of you are incapable of seeing the bigger picture. It’s comical.

So what is the bigger picture? Are these Data Center investments worth the squeeze? Will they be a net positive, or net negative for the community? Who will really benefit the most from these data centers and their construction?

So what is the bigger picture?

Businesses continue to leave the state, put projects on hold, close facilities to move, etc. which means the largest sources of tax revenues for these parishes no longer participate. I think most people forget to take a step back and see how their parishes are funded.

I'd love to have the time to do a deeper dive into the pros/cons of data centers to learn what actual impacts may happen but I do not. Maybe someone can aggregate the information eventually and not use sources from facebook.

ETA: As well as businesses choosing to not develop at all in the state due to unfavorable incentives and/or lawsuits brought on by small, but loud, groups.

That's SWEPCO, but they're all part of MISO so it's all a connected grid. That said, electricity trading is not remotely in my wheelhouse, so I'm not going to try to figure out how SWEPCO costs impact Entergy costs.

Correct me if I am wrong but…

Entergy or a local power generating company that generates power sells that power to MISO and then MISO sells it back to the power companies even if they generated it.

Why do I feel like every time I read something about these giant projects, we’re getting taken for a ride? Why Louisiana? Are we giving them everything while no other state would do so?

You feel like that because you are.

Lots of reasons but primarily La gave them the best deal. Large scale project developers hate uncertainty. And whoever negotiated the deal from the state and utilities gave them confidence that they wouldn’t get buried in pre-NTP litigation and drama. North La is still so happy about getting a Bucees that this slid under the radar mostly.

The highest number of long term jobs that will be generated STATEWIDE is ~150, based on the higher end of average number of employees for data centers.

Lmao. I'm not a pro data center guy by any means, but you might want to stfu if you don't know what you're talking about

Because the data centers will not pay for the upgrades required to the grid by themselves, it will be spread out to the citizens and other customers.

Honestly the data centers should build their own power plants next to their centers and sell energy back to the state. Thus would allow best for everyone in my opinion.

It is not just LA, new AI data centers are being built all over the country. I visited 4 around the Austin area in the last month.

Look up the expected staffing numbers for these buildings once built.

These aren’t paper mills that used to support towns in the past.

The staffing is minimal.

If you have any info to counter that, please enlighten me.
