You do know that there are more than one electric company in the state right?

In Louisiana, at least where I am, you can't choose your provider.

For better or for worse, I'm stuck with DEMCO.

Delta is a PE firm and bills have sky rocketed.

I posted this in the other thread about gas bills, but there’s a pretty obvious reason why everyone’s gas bill skyrocketed in January-February. This is a three-year chart of natural gas spot prices at the Henry Hub:

Ruin our State?

Any building project at all should be welcomed.

No one is coming here, primarily b/c of our extremely poor public education system.
Datacenters basically don't require employees.

Win/win.

I have not done the math, and I don't mean to be argumentative. However, the number of MWs of storage (from solar power generated battery storage capacity) compared to the probably (2400MW???) (800 MW per plant * 3 plants) would probably be insufficient, even from a capacity margin perspective???

Based on public records. Entergy is looking to build 3 1500MW (4500MW) facilities in Richland Parish primarily to support the META site. Franklin Farms 1 & 2; Richland 1 & 2; and Richland 3 & 4.

That is cheap. All the landowners around the Meta site in Holly Ridge have their land listed for sale at $40,000 per acre.

A railroad track runs through the center of mine. Still, if they want to buy, I'll start listening at $50k/acre.

You guys should watch the LPSC B&E tomorrow. There is a group looking to reopen the Meta deal with Entergy because apparently Meta sold 80% of the rights to the data center after the commission approved it. Basically, Meta can jump ship after 4 years and leave the data center expenses, including the Entergy contribution in aid. Sorry I don’t have a link but the article was in the Wall Street Journal.

Meta comes under scrutiny after WSJ report highlights auditor's data center accounting concerns
Found a non-paywalled summary.

quote:

Although the auditor eventually signed off on the decision, it still highlighted the move as a "critical audit matter," the report said. The project, dubbed Hyperion, was relocated into a new joint venture with Blue Owl Capital. Meta owns 20% of the venture, while funds managed by Blue Owl constitute the rest. Since Meta is not the "primary beneficiary" of this project, it did not find it necessary to include it on its balance sheet.

Not sure what else would be put in North La it’s not like the area has been booming the last. 30 yrs

They are building them in NW LA because they will have access to the Haynesville Shale and the two parishes are mostly forests.

The Hedge fund guys have been circling Blue Owl for a while now. This feels like a move out of Industry to try and fight them off.

Gotcha. I just thought it interesting to put that out there since Blackrock is the boogeyman to parts of this board.

I can never tell if people are more scared of blackrock or blackstone. I imagine for this one blackrock put up the capital to buy Meta out of the JV and has Blue Owl on as the asset manager. Thats about the only structure that would make sense to me.

John Fleming picked carbon capture out of a hat as his ride or die issue. If he had picked data centers his campaign might have some traction now.

Data centers have the potential to use sophisticated systems for water cooling where they can recycle the water.

They don’t have the potential for it. They have it.

However, what is the initial amount of fresh water needed for the cooling?

Not near as much as you think.

quote:

And, do we have that amount?

Unequivocally, yes.

quote:

Will it affect our water bills?

Not in any meaningful way.
