Dude, if you don't know how cashing a check works you have no business dropping $2500 on a valentines gift. Trust me on this one and save your money

If he doesn't have the funds available in the account, then he likely wouldn't be able to cash the transit check. He would be required to deposit (which she could see), wait for it to clear, then withdraw. Thus we can assume that the OP doesn't keep at least $2500 in his checking account at any given time.

The bank it was issued from is usually the best idea, some now charge $6.
I think for a third party you need to go to like an Ace or something.
If you have a friend willing to do it, sign it over to him and let him deposit it and then pull cash out. I have done that for people before.
