My theory for awhile has been he wants to get Davis down and then plans to stop. It's the only other one that's not really prominently displayed in its own circle and doesn't really mean all that much to anyone.
He gets to say he tore down this and that dumb Liberty Place Monument and can make his liberal glitterati think he's "done something" and can still turn around and make it look like he's appeased most of the other folks by keeping the two most prominent/visible/historically valuable monuments in place.
Nailed it.

I wouldn't even be surprised if he's cut some sort of deal with Edwards to let that state bill get through as soon as he gets this one down, so that he can save face saying "well, I did what I could, but now my hands are now tied" with regard to the two remaining ones.
Again, dirtbag.

That and the fact the first 2 are the easiest to get down...
It will be interesting to see them take Lee and Beauregard down... Lee being the tallest and Beauregard being the biggest... Won be easy with his 2 bit operation...

Yeah that's what I was thinking. Oh hey y'all are lucky you pass that bill because Robert E Lee and Andrew Jackson we're coming down next
But clear something up for me. If it passes and it goes to a vote of the people who are the people? is it just the people of New Orleans or is it the people of the entire state of Louisiana?

I wanted to go back that way and takes some pictures before they take it down. tLSU may be right, but that is a lot of activity just to measure it. It looked like they were measuring the base when I passed.
I tried to take a pic but some three stripe yelled at me about using my phone and driving.

I'm not really that FOR the confederate statues. It's more that I am very much against the slippery slop this opens up. We get rid of Jackson next, then Jefferson, then Washington, then everyone who ever owned a slave is taboo from history.
Slippery Slope.
Nothing else. It's the precedent this sets that bothers me, not the actual action.
had the mayor came out and said "We are going to move Lee and make the circle 'Tricentennial Circle Park'" I would be all for it. Good idea.
If they were to move Liberty place I wouldn't even notice.
Instead he says we are going to remove these nuisance monuments and that's it. Just those four. Not the other streets or monuments that are named for Confederates. Well fast forward two years later and he is chummy with a group that basically wants to remove every white name pre-1880 from local History.
That I cannot stand for.
There are slave owners who gave their all for this city. I'm sorry but that was the time they were in.
We don't look at the Pyramids and think of the Jews that built them, or the Roman ruins and think of all the christian blood that spilled there. We appreciate the history of the monuments.
Mitch could have done this so much better, instead he took up a cause of fighting racism and just divided the city more.
Slippery Slope.

In fairness they have now become a nuisance to me.
I guess he was sort of right.

Right after Dylan Roof and the horrible events in Charleston.
Not that he (or others) would use a tragedy like that to push a narrative or anything...

I just passed by it. Looks like a work site but with cop cars. TV crew across Canal with a crowd.
Bet it comes down tonight.

Just take them down or leave them alone, I'm so sick of hearing about this shite

I felt it was too many police for it not to be coming down. If they were just measuring I doubt they would have the bullet proof vests on. The city workers who clean the graffiti off weren't in vests.
Plus do you really need that exact of measurements?

Mitch to take stage at Jazz Fest this weekend to announce another statue has come down.

My sentiments exactly. My problem is that the government is trying to control what is/is not acceptable - that's a dangerous precedent to set.
