Let's see you quit TD...tough guy.

well the part about them being the most addictive is true
i do deal with some sort of addicts on most days through work and my bro had drug problems
as long as we're not talking about severe psychological issues (like molestation, death, etc) the biggest issue is social pressure/habit
you just have to get over the initial hump of physical addiction and then get away from the social pressure

I have a buddy who works at St. Christopher's. Their facilites in capital heights are probably the nicest I've ever been in.
Just looked it up. I didn't even know they had that place. I was only aware of the one on Cora...which is, well, not so nice. Is Dr. Cataldie running that one as well? He's a good man.
Let's open a treatment center.

Sorry buddy. But I am just going to have to ignore anything else you post on this topic. You might know a lot about a lot...but you know very little about this topic.
ETA: Wait. Are you saying that in reference to cigarettes? If so then carry on.

do you believe in the 12 step program? because if you think that's the only way to treat addiction, i will say the same about you

Absolutely.

No. But I believe in 12 step programs.
See my edit above. If you were just talking about cigarettes then I have no issue with your statement.

That place works miracles.
It has a 90% sobriety rate for professionals requiring a license to practice. Its success rate is just as good for the common folk but no way to keep track of it as well.

i'm not
the 12 step program isn't really that effective (it's success rates are essentially equal with no treatment Data in here)
here is a Salon Article about AA
quote:
Peer-reviewed studies peg the success rate of AA somewhere between 5 and 10 percent. That is, about one of every fifteen people who enter these programs is able to become and stay sober. In 2006, one of the most prestigious scientific research organizations in the world, the Cochrane Collaboration, conducted a review of the many studies conducted between 1966 and 2005 and reached a stunning conclusion: “No experimental studies unequivocally demonstrated the effectiveness of AA” in treating alcoholism. This group reached the same conclusion about professional AA-oriented treatment (12-step facilitation therapy, or TSF), which is the core of virtually every alcoholism-rehabilitation program in the country.
as for cigs:
Nicotine most addictive substance
from the website for a rehab place, lol
there are other references for that claim. i didn't just make it up. nicotine is addictive as frick. the social acceptance of smoking makes real habits form, and unless your entire peer group quits, you'll have social pressure to smoke

This. I've had family attend and it really helped them out

There are way too many factors for your stats to be completely accurate. For starters the "reason" one chooses AA will determine off the bat if he chooses a better life or not. For example:
Joins AA on the request of a family member - will never work
Joins AA because it's court-ordered - will never work
Joins AA because the person wants a better life - works the majority of the time
Same can be applied to treatment centers.

It is working for me and millions of others. You cannot argue with that.
ETA: I was not going to get in to the common flaws with all of those studies because it simply does not matter. I have seen the program work for those that are willing.
