In this current culture, between your criminal defense costs and civil defense costs, you will bankrupt your family if you shoot someone, justified or not.

If the perp was white, sleep well tonight, but if the perp was black, prepare your crack.

You sound just like babbling idiot Joe Biden. I believe he said the exact same thing one day. Here’s what he said

Of have a CCL, or not but carry, join USCCA today.
I carry a card in the wallet with the following instructions:
Call 911
* Explain you were attacked, geared for your life & had to defend yourself
* Request thatbploice & med be sent
Call USCCA - 800 #
When police arrive
* follow all instructions
* Explain, “ I was attacked, feared for my life & had to defend myself”
* Identify - point out evidence, witnesses & attacker
* Medical - request medical attention, if necessary
* Silence - “I will cooperate 100%, but first need my attorney”. Do not talk further without your attorney present.
USCCA will have an attorney on site within 24 hours or contact a local attorney.
Don’t be surprised if you spend the night in an orange suit. Like any other customer service business, whoever is opening this file will decide. Just go with the flow in a respectful manner in my opinion.
Unless you are a combat vet, the adrenaline will be flowing. Do your best to calm down & follow the list above. Hope you never have to take this ride, but be prepared.

After the shooting and assuming that all threats are neutralized, if it is safe to do so, remove the magazine from the weapon, clear the chamber and set the weapon down. You don't want to have the weapon in your hand when the police roll up, because they won't know if you are a threat and they might end up drawing on you otherwise.
Great advice. This is what got that moron EJ Bradford killed in Hoover, Alabama by the police. He was standing over the body with a gun, cops don't know what happened and neutralized the threat.

Smart cops used to carry a "throw down weapon" an untraceable handgun they would put in the hand of a dead suspect.

Over the years, I have taken several firearm training classes from various individuals who were pretty bad arse (some of whom trained SWAT and other special ops LEOs). Here are some tidbits of advice that I received from them that I thought might be helpful if you ever find yourself in that situation:
Special op LEOs....wtf?
1. Do not unload your gun and sit it down. Investigators would rather have the gun in the exact condition it was in after the shooting.
Also, what if another threat presents itself....victims family, friends, or accomplices could show up.
Decock if needed and just holster it. If it is a long gun you can sit it down but have it nearby in case you need it. When police arrive put your hands on your head and turn around while telling them where the weapon is.
2. Investigators don't care about emotional distress. They understand the lack of it. The lack of it is normal. Fake emotional distress is gonna make you look untruthful.
3. Give a short statement claiming self defense and then advise you intend to give a detail statement after you talk to an attorney.
Example: I heard a noise, came downstairs and found the intruder had broke into my house. I was in fear of my life and my families life and shot the intruder with that gun. I fully intend to cooperate and will give a more detailed statement after I speak with my attorney.
4. Verbal warnings are fine but not required. The main thing is that you can articulate that you perceived a reasonable threat.
5. You will not necessarily be arrested every time. (It depends on the jurisdiction a lot of times) If you give a brief statement that it was self defense that the physical evidence supports there is a chance they may not arrest you. Be respectful and suggest you will cooperate with questioning at a later date and there is a chance you are not charged initially....if the physical evidence supports a self defense claim.

A cop testifying that you showed remorse over the shooting goes a long way in court.
I think showing remorse does more to hurt you than help you. Showing remorse gives the impression you may have regret you didn't handled things another way, i.e. there were other avenues to deescalate the situation. All advice I've gotten in classes says to have someone else phone it in and don't say shite without a lawyer. No matter how fricking hard you think you are you will be traumatized after taking a life and should not be speaking period.

Not true.
The taking of a life in self defense is not as traumatizing as it is made out. Most people handle it pretty good because you realize that your life was at risk.
The trauma is the knowledge that you could have died or fear that you will be attacked again.
In regards to remorse it neither helps nor hinders.

If you call 911, you say nothing other than, “Someone has been shot at {give address}. Send help.” Hang up.
Once first responders show up, this is all you say.....”I don’t feel well. I need medical attention.” They will take you to the hospital. Say nothing until you are with your lawyer.

exhaust every available option to safely escape the situation before pulling the trigger.
I would say do this before pulling the gun out. A gun should be a last resort, but if you pull it be prepared to use it.

Heed this advice as "theenemy" is well documented on this site on the outdoor board as saying he would no pursue justice, but instead try to get you locked up if you request a lawyer. This dude is a piece of shite cop that wants to hang you if you don't give in to his authoritie.

My small town Andy Griffith told me, if you shoot him outside, drag him inside.
Do that and I got your back. Truth
