I’m ready to swap to electric. They have fricked up every engine and transmission in all of the full size trucks. I’m ready for the ramcharger to come out… I am just fingers crossed that this chevrolet will make it until late in the year before the transmission or engine craps out.

That and the Ridgeline aren't trucks, those are just new El Camino's.

F150 with 5.0 or 3.5 Ecoboost and you shouldn't have many problems. The transmission issue on Chevy/GMC's has been sorted out, but now they are having issues with the fuel delivery system. I don't have enough experience on the baby dmax's to really have an opinion on them. New Tundras, stay away from. Stay away from Ram unless you love negative equity.

The Tundra 5.7 & 4.7 Platforms are great. Almost bullet proof.
Chevorlet 5.3, 6.0 platforms are great as well. At least 2003-2006.
Those are my experiences.

Avoid any of the new full size trucks with a turbocharged V6.

Unfortunately, very tough to do.

You probably won’t be able to afford a Toyota with trumps tariffs since they’re made in China

Even the name sounds Chinese

Toyota tundra? Sounds like a ninja name

I love mine. They have sorted out the engine issues and are making it right for those that did fail. As long as you stay away from the 22-23 non hybrids that aren't under warranty you will be fine. It's a well built and designed truck. Motor is strong as hell too.

Everyone that says stay away from the TT V6's I guess is just not going to be able to buy a new truck in the future, because that's where everyone is going. I had good success with my ecoboost and hopefully have the same with my IMax. Would not blink an eye buying another turbo v6.

TIA I corrected above.

I haven't shopped much since I got my 2018 Tundra. It's been trouble free so far for me but the platform is not without its problems either.

With that said the dude that put a million miles on his 4.7L Tundra just finished putting another million on his 5.7L Tundra. He's a hot shot driver.

Not sure if a troll.

The Tundra is assembled in the US, the engines are also made in the US, and likely has a higher domestic parts content than a Ford F150.

I see you've already gotten the usual OT nonsense answers from people who didn't read your post.

Three kids means you need every inch of backseat room you can get, and extra storage will be useful. Having been there done that, you will find yourself eating in the truck a lot too. Some F150's have a nice feature where the shifter folds down and you end up with a full length "table" in the center of the truck that would be handy for those times. Last time I looked, F150 also had the most back seat room, though the newest Ram might have caught up. The twin turbo 2.7 V6 is among the best in the class for reliability vs production numbers and has been around a long time now. You will find that a bad batch of valves in one model year caused some issues, but Ford fixed them all. It also has class-leading fuel economy with solid performance. The 3.5 twin turbo has a lot of fans as well, despite some model years having issues. It and the Ram I6 are the hot rods of the class. The 5.0 V8 would be fine if the two TT V6's weren't so much better overall.

Current Tundra was not the leap forward most thought it would be for Toyota, especially in the fuel economy/performance tradeoff. It's just not a leader. On top of that, there have been catastrophic engine failures with them. Toyota so seldom launches new engines that people forget that they have have similar major problems in the past with new engine launches. They will get it right and no doubt return to their normal levels of reliability, but that doesn't change the weak combination of fuel economy and real world performance. The prior Tundra, while very reliable, also got worst in class fuel economy.

The Ram has the nicest interior and the best ride thanks to its coil spring rear suspension, but also has a brand new and unproven I6 engine. They are getting class-leading power from it though and early reports from dealer techs and owners are good. If you buy one, just get the extended warranty from an online source that sells the FACTORY warranty, NOT a 3rd party, and don't worry about it.

The GM products make a nice first impression, and have some interesting tailgate functionality that some people will use a lot, you may or may not. The engine lineup has proven problematic in that cylinder deactivation in the V8s has caused issues sub-100k miles, and while the turbo I4 has been decent, but it's still the most highly stressed engine in the segment.

Overall, with your light duty use and regular by the book maintenance, any of the full-size trucks will last longer than you probably want to keep them. Everybody claims they want a truck that will last 20 years/300k miles, the reality is that those numbers get hit by 2nd and 3rd owners. Every OEM has had some issues, yes, even Toyota. There is nothing to be scared of with the turbo engines. Turbos are here to stay, and it won't be much longer before you can't buy any IC engine that doesn't have one. Just change the oil to factory spec and you'll be fine.

I got F150 last month with the 5.0 but that’s because it was cheapest. Fits 3 car seats in the back set and loving all the room coming from a 4Runner which was super reliable but cramped in comparison. I missed a truck bed more than anything else.

Wait till Ram starts remaking the Hemi 5.7 in August (supposedly). That engine plus the ZF transmission is ultra reliable. Interior is great and back seat is huge for the kids. Ride is second to none with the rear coil springs. Tech is great too. Had mine since 2021. Not a single issue. GM transmissions aren’t reliable and engine lifters are suspect. Ford has a rubber belt powering their oil pumps. Toyota’s new trucks have been having all kinds of issues.
If you do get the Ram Hemi try not to let it idle too long. Hopefully they put the hellcat oil pump in all new engines (some ppl say the current oil pumps that decrease pressure when at idle cause lifter failure at around 100k miles or so. I have the etorque stop /start so mine doesn’t idle much.).
Good luck

I own an F150 w/ 5.0

Very nice truck and cruises at 1500 rpm all day... first vehicle I've driven over 8 hours and never had an issue with comfortably... no sore back or anything

Would buy again

The only one left I would buy new is the 5.0 F150.

If/when Ram brings back the Hemi that would be the other viable option.

I'm not going to sugar coat it, ALL the trucks are having issues, but those two are having the least, major issues. The motors are solid, if not somewhat noisy with the 5.0. They are victims of the EPA. Sadly.

This is the most accurate take. Every new truck is an over complicated mess in terms of “reliability.”

- Tundra: formerly extremely reliable, but Toyota committed sudoku with their new TTV6 hybrid max bullshite

- Ram: Stellantis garbage that similarly ditched a proven 5.7 engine

- Silverado/Sierra: catastrophic lifter failure in both the 5.3 and 6.2. You can disable cylinder deactivation but you’re still stuck with the shitty lifters.

- F150: the 5.0 is the only NA V8 I would trust, and even they have cylinder deactivation garbage now (which can be disabled). Also transmission issues.

My take? Pick whatever you like because they’re all overpriced junk that you’ll hate within 5 years. OR bump up to a HD truck - the gas offerings from the Big 3 are all pretty reliable: Chevy with the 6.6, Ford with the 7.3, and Ram with the 6.4.

Just get a Z71 Tahoe/Suburban or Timberline Expedition. Ample passenger and luggage space, can pull, strap the kayaks to the roof. As others mentioned, there are issues with the GM lifters so get an extended warranty if you go that route.
