You think? Do you have a specific event you think it started? 9/11 which created the patriot act? Because the patriot act really sent things in a different direction.
But as for as technology and the internet. That was when the internet was at its best IMO. You could search for something and not have a bunch of ads come back as returns. The only social media was myspace, which had 0 appeal to me. In fact, facebook, when you had to have a university email address to sign up is what appealed to me as for as social media and then about a year after it opened up to everyone I deleted it, but in 2008 the iPhone came out.
But it wasn't until 2012-2013ish when most people had smart phones. That's when social media started to really take off then when it got close to the 2016 presidential election that's when social media started to be weaponized then by the 2020 election is was a cancer to society. It was used to create narratives, during covid people were going insane, posting all kind of shite..
