I do think it is debatable whether the arresting officers actually knew of the gun report. They seemed genuinely surprised by the gun being on him and didn't seem to approach it in a manner that would suggest they were initially aware of a gun.

Being loud does not equal surprise. I think they knew if that's what the call was.

And if they went straight to guns and killed him y'all would be bitching because they didn't have tasers. fricking hypocrites.
At least try to not say absurd things. Put forth a little effort.

Just as Tangerine is wrong saying he was being submissive and not moving on the ground, this is equally as ridiculous given the video we've seen. You don't know what he was doing or how the gun came to appear in the struggle.

The guy was asking why the cops didn't have guns out to start. As if now all of the sudden people think that would be a better route than tasing (which they did) or physically subduing (which they tried).

I just don't understand how you can say this isn't a justified shooting.. The officer clearly says "gun" and then "if you move I swear to god" the guy continued to fight he got shot. For those saying he's not fighting back.. Watch the video again and watch his head. If he was submissive, the back of his head would be on the ground.

If he wasn't resisting arrest explain to me what made his head, shoulders, and upper body lift off of the ground at 0:24-0:26 seconds when 2 grown men had their bodyweight on him?
Simple question

As usual with these kinds of things, the video looks bad. The truth is, this is a convicted felon with a gun, being non compliant and fighting two cops. What the hell outcome would you have preferred?

Well the story just hit FOX 8 New Orleans and it seems to be gaining some momentum. They interviewed one person who said this is going to be the next Ferguson. Even the state rep said they are going to keep protesting.

No amount of arguing will convince people who have their minds made up...both sides.
Bottom line
He had an extensive record.
Resisted.
Weapon (not determined).
If he holds his hands up and surrenders, he's still alive.

This dude could have shot at the officers and some people would still defend this POS. He was breaking numerous laws and resisted arrest.
Who does he think he is Hillary Clinton?

I'd like to think everyone here ultimately wants true justice all bull shite aside. That's part of why I post here.

Cops assume everyone has a gun. Every traffic stop. Every warrant served. Period. You think they should all confront every situation to start with their gun out?
Seriously?

Just seeing if I got this straight - Police respond to a disturbance call of a man claiming he was threatened by a man with a gun. They show up and Alton Sterling fits the description of the man in the disturbance call. He chooses not to comply with the officers and a struggle ensues ending with both officers grappling and fighting with a presumed armed suspect. Alton Sterling continues to fight the officers at which point one of the officers draws his gun. Shortly thereafter, the other officer yells "He's got a gun! Gun!" after which the officer with his weapon drawn shoots the suspect multiple times. The only video thus far of the incident was recorded by a bystander on what appears to be a crappy cell phone where the majority of the incident and grappling on the ground was partially obstructed. Add to that, the suspect did in fact have a gun and was a convicted felon who couldn't legally possess a firearm and would be facing prison time again for that alone. If all of that is accurate then this clearly demonstrates why you comply with officers and keep your damn mouth shut until you have representation. A lifetime of crime and poor choices led to this individuals death alone. Their are shitty cops out their indeed, but for Christ's sake COMPLY and worry about it afterwards.

Everyone is keying on the gun "in the pocket" comment by the store clerk. The clerk who has issues with how far away he was. Here is a legit question since it seems people are envisioning a small pistol stuck down deep in a pocket.
What if it was a big pistol stuck in the pocket with the grip hanging out?
What if the pistol was actually in his waistband and the clerk just assumed pocket?
What if the pistol fell out during the struggle and was clearly visible on the ground but on the side away from the clerk?
In those scenarios the pistol is much more accessible and the clerks own statement was that they didn't have full control of the guys right hand.
Are you more prone to shoot quicker in this case? Because right now NONE OF US have the right facts to be arguing one way or the other.

Would you agree that their approach was incredibly calm for a perp who was supposedly waving a gun?
