He was on probation. I believe he was breaking the law by carrying because of that. It was known he was carrying for protection.. again not saying he should break the law. He was doing his business in a dangerous area I believe. His own mother had actually advised him to carry a knife instead.
This still doesn't justify him being murdered.
He has resisted arrest before with police while carrying a gun, but he never went to use it..
The guy is a career criminal. He has first hand knowledge how the process works and what not to do.
The cops knew he had a gun, so I'd imagine they are already frantic about the situation. On top of that, the guy is of intimidating stature. I'm not justifying their actions, but these guys have family and friends too. They want to go home and see their wives and kids and loved ones as well at the end of the shift.

Holy shite you're dense. You think a media outlet that's posting that headline cares if it's old information? No, they don't. They see it as a way to generate MORE interest (clicks) in the same fricking topic.
Damn man. This really is not a hard concept.
It's now almost 2 days old. He implied the media was going to run with that angle. They didn't. In fact it hasn't come up again. They aren't focusing on it any more.
I'm not as dense as you at least.

Which is why I don't understand why he attempted to tackle him and roll on the ground with him...

I'll earnestly admit that I am not completely familiar with the story. I saw a short segment about it on the news in between the Trump/Hilary segments.
Didn't the cops taser him prior and he didn't go down?
ETA: If you have a weapon on you, and you are not legally allowed to carry a weapon, it's in your best interest to comply entirely with the officer's demands. The cops know he is armed. They are tense about the situation. This isn't your routine "stop and frisk". Any shift or wrongful movement that the cops perceive is toward that weapon, bad things are going to happen.

Because he wasn't complying to get on the ground, wasn't complying to get his hands up, and taser didn't work. How else would you subdue him?
Posted on 7/7/16 at 1:04 pm to Grandioso
Yes, they hit him with a taser twice. It didn't even phase him.

the officers didn't want to get shot through his pants either
that's also a possibility so even though the gun wasn't in his hand, he may have reached for it and at that moment was shot before getting to it

One of the articles was posted less than 24 hours ago.....

"The media isn't using that angle," while talking about the media who have used it.....
It doesn't get much more dense than that buddy.

So in your opinion, what should the cops have done? Pulled a gun on Alton from the get go to really escalate the situation? Attempt to reason with a man pointing a gun at other people?

I understand that this is why the cop was thinking, I still think it was an idiotic move. The guy had his hands up above his waist. Why not pull out your gun and then call for backup if you felt that threatened?

I never said they wouldnt use the angle. I said that it wouldnt be "taking off" like you or whoever said it would.
Dense is actually arguing with someone and not knowing exactly why.

That's why I'd like to know what happened right before the tackle. Maybe there were trying to get his hands behind his back and he wasn't cooperating? In that situation, in such close proximity, your goal is to get him to the ground and in cuffs. Not draw your weapon and throw gasoline on the fire. Also keep in mind this was after that cat took two tazes like they were mosquitoes.

You can cut out the middle and it is still a factual statement.

Do we know back up wasn't already on the way? Given how the situation was playing out, the officers took the chance to subdue the guy and get the gun from him so that he wouldn't harm anyone else, including themselves. The moron just wouldn't listen and got himself into a shitty situation with cops that weren't going to be killed over him not complying.

What exactly is calling it a "non-angle" then?

Like calling the media's use of empty hands a "non-angle"? Good Lord......
