It's not. But your argument is that they should have had their guns out from the first moment as if this was a raid or something. It was a guy outside a store who's been there for years. They likely at least knew of him. it was anonymous tip. Not the store owner or someone on the phone in trouble. Just a "go check this out". So they did. Where it went from there we don't know but they did all they could to avoid using bullets. Something you have campaigned for here multiple times, yet here you are still saying they did it wrong.
You just can't win with some people.
If the cops pull up guns drawn they'd be bitching about them escalating the situation. In fact there was a case similar years ago where someone was waving a firearm in a park and a cop pulled up and led with a gun. He was crucified for doing exactly what was suggested by some folks here.
More than likely these cops wanted to avoid guns. They are pulling up and seeing if he's waving a gun. They see he isn't so they lead with tasers.
The only remotely questionable thing here is shooting him on the ground, but it honestly looks justifiable given the struggle and gun in his pocket.
I suspect other videos will prove justification, but that wont matter as we've seen in places like Furgeson.

The guy resisting them is mistake #1. Why in the world do people do this? And with a weapon in his pocket, too.
But the cops' actions don't look particularly justifiable.

So they can be a martyr for the cause. That's how this guy will now be perceived.

It's simple:
DON'T PHYSICALLY ATTACK A POLICE OFFICER IF YOU'RE PACKING
DON'T PHYSICALLY ATTACK A POLICE OFFICER IF YOU'RE PACKING

If every cop waited for the gun to be in the perp's hand, there would be a lot more dead cops. Going for it is enough. Remember the Oregon killing after the guy crashes into the snow bank? No gun seen but makes move toward jacket pocket.

while i completely agree with you, we cant really see what was going on in the wrestling match, the guy may have been reaching for it with his right hand, and if that is the case, I am completely fine with the cops actions

The 911 call was for an armed BM in a red shirt threatening someone with a gun.

Hearsay. But if that's what he said so be it.

same
but if they just saw the gun and he wasn't trying to reach for it, why not grab and toss the gun yourself?
and I get that the cops are reacting with split second decisions in the moment and don't have time to analyze the situation like we do, but cops are held to a higher standard than the average citizen

An officer fighting with a large convicted felon that has already shrugged off a taser shouldn't have to wait till the last second to make sure this guy is reaching for his gun and not just scratching an itch during the middle of the fight.

Textbook comply or die
Nice strawman argument. You use comply very lightly there. The guy was tazed twice and tackled to the ground. It's not hard to understand that the cops mean business. Then they draw their guns at your chest and tell you not to move.
When someone has a gun, at some point it does equal comply or die. Otherwise the cops will die.
Where do you draw that line? I say a good point is when you are wrestling with someone who you think has a gun and can't be controlled with non lethal force. Can you state when you think lethal force is justified?

Dude stfu.
It's easy to sit there and talk about what you would've done in a tense situation as cop with a tpos with a gun.
The tpos messed up and paid the price.
DWI people.

well it was 2 officers and they had the guy on the ground
and if they see the gun and he isn't going for it, could they themselves not disarm him?

how can these people say there wasnt a struggle? they had to fricking tackle him to get him to the ground because he wouldnt listen...
To be fair, in the video clip posted, Sterling is never the aggressor and the "struggle" consists of him raising his head off the cement. I understand the cops are going to make him comply for an arrest, but it would be helpful to their cause if the video showed the man acting like a raving lunatic. That doesn't mean the shooting was unjustified, but it doesn't help their case.

Is there ever any middle ground in these threads? I mean nobody can think that the cops were 100% right or 100% wrong in this, can they?
