Convicted felon resisting after being tased and illegally carrying a firearm? They've done enough already.
were the cops aware that he was a convicted felon and the gun was illegal?

Literally none of this happened in any video posted on the matter.
Again, awfully convenient the vids all start after the tasing began.

Doesn't matter to me. The facts are what they are.

Only 1 up vote and 7 down votes to this response is telling. The police can be overwhelmed due to poor or inadequate training and still be justified in shooting the man. I think a reasonable person can separate the two ideas. Hell, I'd think even the officers would have behaved differently in hindsight. If they knew he had a gun it is unlikely the approach him in such a manner. They tackled him to get him to the ground but that escalated the situation to deadly force once the gun appeared, if the gun appeared. Once that happened, shooting seems justified, but the question is if that was avoidable in the first place.
wasnt the original call regarding his possession of a gun though? otherwise, generally, i agree.
and i dont think thats any kind of scorched earth anti-police stance, simply that i think rarely do we end up with a dead guy and 2 fighting for their livelihood unless both sides missed some chances to de-escalate along the way. certainly plenty of exceptions to that rule.

without reaching for his weapon, how could that be justified?
Didn't the 911 call say he was threatening people with a gun?
You think in the ensuing take down the officers had any clue where the gun was? So they should just continue to struggle until they see a glint of steel?
Need to give ol boy a fighting chance to defend himself first right?

The definition of an upstanding citizen

Only in America can a registered sex offender, with over 20 years of violent crimes and felonies, be shot for reaching for an illegal firearm while resisting arrest after selling bootleg CDs, and that man be considered a martyr.
What kind of fricked up times do we live?

An officer fighting with a large convicted felon that has already shrugged off a taser shouldn't have to wait till the last second to make sure this guy is reaching for his gun and not just scratching an itch during the middle of the fight.
You're not wrong, but that is why this kind of thing sucks and is tragic. If it was an average citizen he/she would no doubt be much more susceptible to a murder charge.

seriously, are you people retarded?
the ones that get offended for anyone asking basic questions regarded the situation are just as dumb as the people yelling "murder!" in these cases

so why not just shoot him when they roll up?

Just saw the video. Yikes. Hope that cop doesn't have a wife and kids. Prayers to all. Going to be a rough ride.

If you are carrying a firearm and fight with the police, you can expect a very bad outcome.
If you comply with the officers in an orderly fashion not to make them fear for their safety, I guarantee things will turn out better for you.
The underlying problem is that black men have been taught that the police are their enemy and are out to harm them, so their first reaction is to become argumentative and combative. Until the perception of black Americans toward the police changes, this shite will continue.

Sure... whatever you say. The ones who ask ridiculous questions just to attempt to instigate are also, equally retarded, in my book.

I mean, that's not a particularly fair comparison. Why would an average citizen be attempting to detain this guy? I don't see how you can compare this situation to one between two regular people.

How many of this overflowing stage of peeps would have been at Parish Prison with bail money for him if he had peacefully followed instructions as directed?
