Former Port Allen High School now Port Allen Middle school is an art deco gem (and art deco gym lol) hidden in West Baton Rouge Parish. Built in 1936.

I get that cost is a big factor in architectural decisions, but it's sad that we don't produce beautiful buildings anymore. A lot of these buildings were built in the 20's and 30's, when people were much poorer than they are today. Architecture should return to the days where it inspired awe and lifted our spirits instead of making us miserable.

Yup. Building codes, city councils and zoning boards screwed the country.

The "Mercury" - a streamliner passenger train which operated in the Midwest between 1936 and 1959. It was designed by the legendary industrial designer Henry Dreyfuss, right after he was released from Devil's Island.

Any idea where that HoJo's was? It looks a lot like the one that was across the Intracoastal Waterway bridge in Lake Worth.

Milwaukee
Here's a cool article about the city's architecture. After Ueck died this winter, going back for Monday's Brewers home opening day became a necessity. I love the scenery from the airport to just north of the Marquette interchange. Churches that look like they were teleported from old German cities as you get closer to downtown and then the Milwaukee courthouse it's the cap on its the north side. Fiserv was built with an art deco style in mind to replace a sterile Bradley Center which looked the same in is opening and closing years. I don't know why they didn't take advantage of the city's architecture when designing Miller Park. It sticks out for all the wrong reasons.
