American architects seemed to have given up

Or is it the clients. It could be both, but from my experience .... What you see isn't what the architect started or wanted as the finished product.

But also...as said in an earlier post. You can build it... But the service will still suck and to add.. The people will be in pajamas and Crocs

Fisher Building-Detroit

Remember the "Fisher Body" plates on old GM cars? The Fisher brothers built this building after selling out to GM in the 1920s.

If you watched Mad Men, the scene showing Pete not knowing how to drive a manual with the '69 Z/28 was filmed in this building.

I posted some CUs of Fisher Bldg chandeliers earlier, but no wide shots like these.

Are these current pics? I hope the bldg has been preserved. For all the jokes its a shame what's happened to Detroit.

The Fisher Building isn't downtown (It's in what they call the New City part of Detroit iirc.) which may have helped it stay in good condition. And it was never been abandoned like the United Artists theatre and such that left some incredible buildings destroyed shells.

eta-New Center, not New City. It's kind of like a second downtown a few miles out from the real downtown.

Detroit is a pretty large city when looking at land area.

Website for building with some more pics

Some fantastic pictures at the site.
