I don't have much of value to add other than we typically go to the beach for Thanksgiving and have for 30ish years. A very comical miscommunication resulted in half my immediate family booking a very expensive and non-refundable trip the week prior to Thanksgiving, which they just finished.

We're leaving tomorrow for ours.

As I said in the other thread:

quote:

Oh goody! I’ve browsed this site for years before joining, these are my favorite threads. This year my trashy cousin is joining me, my gf and her extremely Catholic parents for thanksgiving. Best way I can describe him is Joe Dirt with the same amount of money as a mid level kingpin. He’s 52, sold a commercial cleaning firm, and now just dates strippers and gives no fricks. He’s bringing his gf who is 23 and has fingernails like Wolverine. Gonna be a cultural clash for sure. Also culinary, were gonna have like half and half mexican food and cajun food. Massive shits for days im sure.

Also my cousin just mentioned offhand today that his current girlfriend was previously in jail for a year for getting “some bullshite charge” (looked it up, got caught going 70 over the speed limit in a car that her previous boyfriend had stolen, and had a pound of weed in the passenger seat).

Man he sure can pick em

This 4 year boy of theirs is the most spoiled little shitstain of a brat I've ever seen. Because they are liberal Austinites, they are raising this kid in the worst way. He rules the house. There is zero discipline, zero effort to correct this kid when he's misbehaving, and complete protection of him when anyone voices displeasure over what Litte Lord Fauntleroy is doing.

Take a nice sized switch to him and wear a GoPro.

I already have one sibling who will not be attending due to being a lib and seeing some trump paraphernalia at my parents' house that are meant to be part of the decorations or something like that.

Probably won't be too many fireworks because everyone else voted for trump, but it may be a bit lame when this year's thanksgiving with family we see once or twice a year is a 2 or 3 day reenactment of the RNC.

During Covid we had a poster who had family that would eat outside because of the virus.

I went to an Ivy League full time MBA. My first semester we had to sit out on the front lawn to eat lunch. There were administrators making sure we were 6 feet apart. We were all close to 30 years old and were treated like 6 year olds.

No one can beat this one from 2023 - QJenk user:

quote:

I forgot to post this last night or this morning, but I was also drunk.

We hosted Thanksgiving at the house. We had my wife's siblings stay the night. Once other guests left, we were just hanging around drinking and talking. We got to telling stories, and somehow we started telling embarrassing stories/moments of our lives. Well, when it came around to my 22 year old BIL, he's autistic. This was his story, "Well, I've jacked off to my sister before". He said literally nothing else, he left it at that.
My wife and her sister were obviously embarrassed/pissed/traumatized. My immature arse started instigating things, "so uhh, which sister was it, how many times did this happen, why your sister, was it recent?". He refused to say anything else. He isn't great with social interaction, but he knows he fricked up, so he didn't say a single word for the rest of the night.

BIL has 2 sisters, one is my wife, obviously (and she's technically only half sister), and the other sister who was also present. That moment pretty much ends the night. Nobody wanted to hang out after that. My wife and her sis stayed outside talking most of the night. When I've tried to pry and ask what they talked about, or ask which sister was he referring to, she told me to shut the frick up.

Idk how everyone will go back to ever unhearing that statement.

Not lame at all. Something to be thankful for.

I might have a small contribution to this wonderful thread on Thursday. Wife and I are going up to my dad’s house where family and friends will be. All great people who get along together, share same political ideas, etc. The kicker is an aunt and uncle are coming in from Austin. To put it bluntly they wore a pussy costume years back for women’s rights. Two years ago it was fine because “the country is in great hands and supporting the world.” 50/50 it’s goes smooth or we will have memories to look back on for years.

Having our thanksgiving today.

Wife wanted to make her great grandmother's depression era chicken and dumplings for the family for the first time.

Did one batch last night to make sure they came out right. They came out perfect

She did the second batch. Turned out perfect. Mixed them up in a big enameled cast iron pot. All they needed was to be reheated.

Bring the pot over to grandma's house.
It's on the table.

All is fine. Needs to go to the stove to be heated up. I bring it to stove and set it down. Said it's on the stove, do it how you want.

Don't know who turned the burner on hi, or how long it was until it got noticed, but eventually mom smelled something burning.

Scorched the bottom and the whole thing (to me) tastes burnt. I say throw the whole thing out. My mom and sister try to lie and say it tastes fine. (It doesn't. It's scorched).

We scooped out the top portion and my wife is trying to save it with her Grandma's advice (sugar, cream of chicken and some stock.)

Just burns my biscuits that someone burned the dumplings.

Did FIL's Thanksgiving yesterday with no real drama except for food that wasn't good. Outside of my wife, that side of the family has a bunch of women who can't cook for shite. Runny dressing, rolls that were rock hard, deviled eggs that looked like they were sat on, and mac n cheese which was basically plain noodles with shredded cheese melted on top. Thankfully, we're doing my MIL on Thanksgiving Day and she's a great cook.

We often do holidays on weird days around the actual date. We did Thanksgiving yesterday.

If we hadn't, I'd have missed it due to vacation and my husband would have missed it due to work.

Christmas with my family will be the 27th this year, too.

Our life is a daily challenge with me being 50 and no-pic wife nearly 50, with young boys who are nonstop insanity.

But somehow we have zero extended-family drama at all.

I think the most intense it has ever gotten was when my father-in-law’s sister and elderly mother and I ganged up on my FIL about Trump during his first term. It was good natured but also awesomely one-sided destruction.

He isn’t a lib but caught a mild case of TDS at some point. Probably at the Methodist “church.”

I keep it to myself now. I’ll just be grinning a lot.

I never have any drama but here recently, had my gay, married niece (whom we all love) send a text in the family group text that if anyone brings up Trump they’re going to leave with no discussions.

Recently my wife found out SIL got knocked up, she has bounced from job to job, has no car, lives with her parents. The family was trying to convince her to give up the baby to one of her sisters to raise it. She won't hear any of it, her parents pay for most everything, she has no bills, no responsibility.

She thinks she can raise the baby all on her own without parents help. They are trying to get an apartment together, but don't make enough to do that. The only apartments they could probably afford are subsidized and they are on a waiting list. So I'd be surprised if something doesn't happen this year.

Damn i hope the baby gets what it needs.
