Market Street has certainly gotten pretty rough, but SF only had 56 murders last year compared to Baton Rouge’s 149, despite having nearly four times the population.

It might not be a pleasant topic for some but high murder rates are just about always tied to demographics and those 2 cities aren't the same.

BR would probably be a relatively safe city if you ran the stats for white people, Asians and Indians.

The entire US would have comparable violent crime stats with Europe if just one demographic is removed from the equation. It’s not guns causing the crime.
