You nailed it when you said he was in a hurry, he had been in a hurry for many years and it caught up to him.

Just find a flight physician, pay for your medical.
Then being out, your license and log book to an instructorinstructor. They can reevaluate. Generally a coupe of hours dual, then a multi stop x-country solo and a night flight or two and you're ready to go.
Then just have to check out in the plane you want.
I preferred the Piper the school had. While it was carburated and I had to remember the heat on and off, it had an AC unlike the Cessna.

I keep reading about how we will have a pilot shortage. Out of curiosity, how much does it cost for one to become a commercial pilot now (ballpark figure)? And how long would it take?

There are zero to hero programs that can be done in about a year, $100-150k.

Really interesting but I think getting/using a license is outside of my economic power

Probably. Not just saying that. Think $200-300 a lesson and you'll need a minimum of 40

Some schools will go for as "low" as $50k-$70k.

Wow, a bit more than I would have assumed. I also see a lot of the major carriers prefer people to have a college degree as well. That's a pretty large investment

Question- I have about 35 hours of flying from when I was 15. I am now 30 and have not flowing in 15 years. Are my hours still good or would I need to start over?

I know that I am missing some night hours, cross country, and ground school. But could I take some lessons in those and do ground school and continue on?

That can be true however from my experience, hours are the biggest factor. Most part 141 schools only take you to 250 hours total flying time which includes a commercial rating. 250 hours isn't even sniffing a commercial airliner job though. Most people go into flight instructing for 3-5 years to build hours while making shite pay.

The FAA requirement for an Airline Transport Pilot certificate is 1500 hours total and that is required to fly commercial airliners. Even after you get that and you successfully interview with a regional carrier, you'll fly right seat for years making $40-50k a year until you build either seniority to be a captain on a regional carrier, or enough hours to go to the majors.

Theoretically yes if you still have your logbook with the recorded hours. However, if I was your flight instructor and you had that big of a gap I'd probably start you out from scratch and have you review what you've already completed.

Learn to fly rotary, it will make you an all-around better pilot, if you ever chose to get a fixed-wing PPL.

There's a caveat, if your spastic, and cant walk and chew gum at the same time, avoid rotary like the plague.

Other than that single engine planes are a nope for me.
There's a saying in aviation about twin piston engine aircraft, "The 2nd engine will get you to the scene of the crash".

Basically, most piston engine twins can't climb on one engine because of the drag created by the dead engine and the yaw if not flown correctly and done quickly. Otherwise, they spin it right into the ground.

Which regional, and why did you leave Part 121 to go corporate, if you don’t mind me asking?

ExpressJet. Pay sucked, schedules sucked and the airline was shrinking at an alarming rate. The corporate side of Aviation is booming right now and I’ve been able to rise rather quickly whereas at the airlines I would’ve been a slave to seniority hoping a major would pick me up.
