Good to see people remember that kind of stuff. BTW...Mr. Hoyt was a really good guy.

I guess back in the day, Opelousas really wasn't that bad a town to grow up in.

I didn't think it was a bad town to grow up in. But once I grew up I didn't really have any reason to want to stay there.

Lived in Opelousas until I turned 13. Went to middle school at OC. My family ended up buying property in Carencro and sent me to Tuerlings.

My grandparents still live in Park Vista and I drive by there to see them and couple of childhood buddies. For the most part, my entire family left the area. Most of them live in Lafayette/Baton Rouge or left the state entirely.

If you stay past 18, it sucks you in like a black hole.

Yeah. I had to move back briefly, but as I had pretty much cut off contact with anyone I'm not related to when I graduated HS (as you can attest to), it wasn't hard for me to leave again.

Yeah, I left after graduating from high school. I live in NYC now. Big difference .

Opelousas has some good peeps there. Just a shame that it has gone down hill so much. My dad is a doctor and practiced in Opelousas from the 60s until he retired in 98. There is no way my parents would ever move.

I can almost guarantee our dads know each other. I have no idea who you are though.

I'm 38, but yeah your dad probably knows my dad. He was the first ophthalmologist in town. His office was across the street from OC.

I've never been impressed by Soileau's, guess it's just a personal taste. I still drive out of my way to get boudin balls from Billy's whenever I'm in Louisiana.

I got food poisoning from Roma's on two different occasions. I have seen many strange things in Roma's after 1 am. Including Roma lounging in her recliner watching tv in the back room. She used to always yell at us for cursing.

Oh shite (pun intended). I still think that's one of the best burgers ever.

I'm just happy we made it out of there alive on a few different stops.
