OP is dumb. Guitar is like the ultimate successful boomer hobby. Who do you think keeps all of those high end guitar stores in business?

I'm not in that demographic, but I've been playing daily since I was 13. It's helped keep me sane and definitely contributed to success in other areas of my life.

Well, he’s a credit analyst, but he’s in some pretty good company.

Syd Barrett, Jeff Beck, Albert Collins, Bob Dylan, David Gilmore, Merle Haggard, George Harrison, Waylon Jennings, Muddy Waters, Buck Owens, Jimmy Page, Keith Richards, Bruce Springsteen, Pete Townsend...

This

When I finally have more money than common sense (but not for lack of common sense), I will definitely be snagging one of these Gibsons, though:

However, my next guitar will likely be one of these Agile 3100s:

I've got a '69 SG and an 80s Mexican Tele.

I want to buy one of the new '59 Goldtop throwbacks but I can't justify the expense with how bad I am at guitar.

I know someone who offered to sell me his '59 reissue Goldtop for $800. I ran the numbers and realized I couldn't swing the guitar, so I bought the pedal instead.

Successful boomers who are into guitar like my uncles. Doctors, lawyers etc. that came of age in the 70's. One of my uncles has spent 40k+ a year on guitars the past few years. I went to a large shop in Dallas with him where the guitars started at 3k. I've been to shops like that in Atlanta, Charlotte, and Reno too.

Why in God's name did they put a locking tremolo on that thing? Nice looking guitar otherwise.

Any chance he would be interested in sharing some of that wealth with an aspiring musician? Just could use another LP, a few pedals, a pedal board, in-ear monitors, PA, lights, banner, recording budget, promotion budget, tour van, etc. Just a few essentials

So it could have a whammy bar? Duh. LP's don't have tremelo's, so it's a nice added feature. Plus, that tremolo allows one to bend the pitch up or down, as opposed to a Bigsby bridge which is far more aesthetically pleasing but only allows one to bend the pitch down.

A scholarship of sorts? Unfortunately he's a bit of an a-hole. I'll go over there and play with his toys sometimes, but he ends up getting pissy because I'm a lot better than him (not trying to brag I just am).

When I saw him a couple months ago he left me with the distinct impression that he had just bought a 20,000 dollar acoustic.

I don't get that excited about chasing gear the way I used to. I just enjoy playing my strat.

Are you auditioning for Whitesnake? Is it 1987?

I'm just giving you a hard time. Locking tremelos on Les Paul's don't sit right with me, but to each their own.

I'm honestly pretty close to having my setup exactly how I want it. I'm just trying to get my band ready to actually start making money. We've learned enough covers now to do 3 hour sets. I'm trying to use those to make enough money to put out a new EP since the makeup of the band has changed so much since the last one. I'm also trying to get our gear up to snuff so they'll be ready to go on tour before too long. We're already planning a small tour around the state and possibly Mississippi, Alabama, and Texas for this summer. I'm just trying to get this band ready to get out of just playing little 45 minute original sets at the Pop Shop and Phil Brady's and start playing real gigs.

Yes but I’m generally horribly inconsistent, easily frustrated, undisciplined and not overly talented.

But yeah I play.
