If so, how do you like the field?? Is it worth getting into?
I do it on the side.
I buy a lot of broken items like Xbox/PS controllers and Nintendo switches and just swap out parts and resell them on eBay/Amazon/Facebook.

Instrument techs make good money and you're not pulling chains to open valves.
In fact, you're doing everything you can to make it so the operators don't have too either.

It’s definitely still a needed skill set. It’s not a well known job. But you can make a pretty good living repairing medical equipment if you have a degree like that.
Those working for GE, Siemens, Philips, Toshiba, doing service work do very well money wise. Those that have been in the field for a few years can have a salary in high 5 figures, and break $100k with overtime, and call pay. Most require a 4 year degree, but the work is more hands on electronic technician type stuff than a engineering job.

Here is a good write up that discusses controls and automation / Instrumentation and what that entails.
So you want to be an Instrument Technician?

I fix guitar amps as a hobby
If you know how to solder and read a schematic it’s not difficult
