All this talk got me looking. I dug through our attic and found a complete set of the 92 Skybox Dream Team. Those were some beautiful cards.

I used to as a kid back in the 90’s…
Actually had some really valuable ones that were lost somehow during our move to mobile in 95. If I remember correctly, we lost a babe Ruth or Mickey mantle. My dad was sick about it.
Glad I was only 10 and didn’t really understand.

was one next to Come Back Inn on West Metairie? or was that Family Baseball Cards and Comics? or did they change the name at one point. I kept that place in business i think

No that was Family Crooks and Comics. We were further down on West Esplanade across from a catholic school around Transcontinental.

And don't forget, was it, K19 in Baton Rouge airing the Houston Astros? That was a rough era to be an Astros fan.

We didn’t have that in New Orleans. I did however go to more Astros games than any other team because we were always there doing shows.

Well all my info is dated. I was around it ALOT from the time I was 10 in 1983 until I went to College at LSU in 1991 where I would just work weekends for spending money. But during that stretch I went to baseball card shows from NY to SF. We couldn’t fly with all that merchandise so we had to drive everywhere. I met all of the old baseball players doing the autograph circuit. Highlights being when my Dad paid Mickey Mantle $18,000 in 1987 to sign autographs at our show in NOLA. Another one was meeting Joe DiMaggio at a show in St. Louis. Also lost my virginity to an FFA chick that weekend that was at same hotel for their convention. Fun times

Problem is even the current basic hobby boxes have a premium on them because of the outrageous prices that the rookies are going for.

Even NHL cards were impossible to find because one rookies cards were starting at $500 each for a base model, then you got Wemby in the NBA driving those prices up. And I know Holliday in baseball had a $1m bounty on his gold auto card

If good packs weren't getting camped out for by grown men or being sold for 5x msrp by card shops it'd be a lot more enjoyable

I collected in my youth, luckily got into the vintage and have a small but decent collection. I also have all the 80s early 90s overproduced cards.. some good years but mostly crap

I got back into a few years ago with my youngest son. More football now a days with lots of products.. it’s really by the draft year and product specific. It’s a wide range these days

I wouldn't say I collect. I have about 300 or so cards from the late 70s and early 80s from when I was a kid.
