Sounds like everyone's definition of fine dining varies a lot

For me, I love a 3 hour prime steakhouse and wine outing. Or comparable non-steak business/gentleman's style "fine dining."

Michelin stuff less so. I respect it and will certainly take up an opportunity to do it here and there, especially abroad. I do like learning about it, documentaries of very high end kitchens, etc. - but I'm ok never visiting the overwhelming majority of them.

Just make the food good and the place clean. The rest is BS.

You think that is what you are expressing?

I don’t care about photography, but can acknowledge that there are levels to it & understand why some may value higher level photography. You just sound ignorant

Michelin 1 star restaurants are amazing.

If what you're after is superior food, a 1 star is what you're looking for.

I love all kinds of restaurants. From picnic tables outside where you pick your own food up from a trailer all the way to coat and tie required fine dining.

No shite? Guess you missed the part about my favorite steakhouse I mentioned. Hint: It's not in Lake Charles or even neighboring Houston.

You probably eat at chains like Fleming’s and think you are sophisticated.

That’s interesting considering he plays at the local saloon that is owned locally, but he worked on your cruise ship that was owned by a huge conglomerate corporation.

I think that's true, but what I really mean is more traditional fine dining starred restaurants prior to the more recent expansions. I don't know whether pre-expansion cities in the US had BBQ places and the like getting a star, but I certainly didn't know about it if so.

And most of the 1 star places I've been elsewhere are still "haute cuisine" as I would think of it. So that's really what I'm talking about, I think.

I don’t think I’ve ever been to a Fleming’s, though I do think Del Frisco is pretty good for a chain

Ruths can be a very nice dining experience with friends, family and customers.....anywhere from a 30 min power lunch to a 3 hour lunch that can lead to a 3 hour dinner.

Ruths is nice with good food and always good service......but they are a chain...I dont consider them a "Fine Dining Restaurant"

*Stout I was replying to your post but not to you....just making a general statement

Yes, he's also played the Playboy mansion in the past. Funny guy.

For you anal retentives, thats a place with a lot of women who hang round and pose nude.

Nude means naked, one day you'll see one.

I went to Flemings once on a gift card and I'd be fricking pissed paying those prices myself

Much better locally based steakhouses across the country with better food and better atmosphere.

Give me a good steakhouse with awesome sides, good service, good atmosphere, and a good bourbon selection over some nothing but fried food place any day.

There's not much of a gap in a high-end steak house vs a mid-tier steakhouse, though.

Spent $100 on a dry-aged steak last night that was not any better than a mid-tier steakhouse steak that costs $50. Even my wife said the same about her meal.

You are paying extra for the atmosphere, usually, which is what the OP was pointing out.

FWIW I have eaten at many steakhouses all over and my favorite is Steak & Whisky in Hermosa Beach. Some of the freshest beef I have had was at 1900 Steakhouse in Torreón, MX.

Best steak I've ever had at a restaurant is actually Gallagher's in Covington, LA

Bones in atlanta was incredible as well.

Yeah but on top of that, as I said earlier, I often love to see if those chefs have a 2nd or 3rd restaurant and go to that one. Its often still extremely good but less expensive and more casual

I don't like wearing a coat and tie and I don't like the pretentious atmosphere.
Other than that, the food and service can be great at a really nice restaurant that does not just rest on its laurels.

I'm not sure there are very many places on earth that require a tie.

I took my lady to Flemings for V day when I was 20. Spent all my busboy money from the week but they didn't card me for drinks and I got laid. That dining experience was just fine.
