Didn't really get "sick" for an extended period of time. Got over that part within the first 24 hours. I did have the shakes pretty rough for about two days though. The worst part of it for me was the inability to complete a sentence without a looooooong abrupt pause right in the middle of it. It was almost like having a stroke.
Symptoms for me subsided pretty much completely within about two weeks. I was very fortunate and blessed to have been able to do it "cold turkey" without having to be admitted to a medical facility. Undoubtedly lots of prayers offered by many people on my behalf are to be appreciated as a main part of helping me survive the withdrawal from alcohol.
Quitting drinking can be life threatening once your body and brain have become used to it and dependent on it. If things get to wild and hairy, don't hesitate to seek medical help to get off the sauce.
Once you're free of that demon, there is AA if you want to try that route. I found that it wasn't for me though. To me, every AA meeting felt like a pity party for everyone there who was "struggling and trying so hard to stay away from alcohol." While everything was centered around avoiding alcohol, it was therefore centered on alcohol and it was a reminder of the misery of addiction to it rather than offering a freedom from it with no desire to look back.
I found it much better to focus on the positives in my life. Family, work, hobbies such as fly-fishing, and the church. (Certainly not in that order, but those were and are my focuses these days.)
I wish you all the best in your effort to put it behind you. I'll keep you in my prayers to that effect as well. Without a doubt, deep, fervent prayer was the foundation and best solution for my escape.

About 1.5-2 bottles of wine per night. Half a bottle of liquor if it’s a liquor night.
You won't get sick from that. I was drinking 2 handles of bourbon and 2 12-packs of IPAs a week for years and quit cold turkey with no ill effects. I managed to get alcoholic neuropathy so now my feet are permanently fricked up.
Quitting was the best thing I ever did. I just wish my nerves would repair themselves...

I did two months of zero whisky after my divorce. It had gotten a little out of hand and I didn’t like the way I felt so finished all my liquor and waited for the seizures since I was convinced I was an alcoholic. Didn’t feel any real physical withdrawals other than normal hangover symptoms for about 2-3 days. About a week later I got really bad diarrhea that lasted a few days and tapered off after a week. Also went through stretches of not sleeping well and always feeling tired. Second month I felt a lot better. More energy, more active, better mental clarity.

Kudos to you, brother. I’ve been in the hospital for 3 days now

Good - you are where you need to be at the moment. The question now is, have you had enough yet?

Hands down the best decision of my life. Been over 2 years now, and I have no desire to ever have a drink again.
I didn't lose many relationships with friends or family while I was drinking. That unexpectedly came after, and was really hard. Still is if I am being truthful, but thats ok. I am finding new friends and building relationships with people who couldn't care less that I don't drink.
I felt sick for a bit after I quit, but I think a lot of that was just pure exhaustion. I couldn't sleep, but after a few weeks that got better.
Good luck to you!

That can't be good baw. Get your bloodwork done if this has been going on a long time to see if your liver enzymes are out of whack which could indicate some serious issues.
fun fact, the top 10% of drinkers (24 million Americans) drink over 10 drinks/night, on average.

I quit 10 years ago because of my own stupidity. I was too mad at myself to feel sick.

Yep, but started back the next day.

Get help if you need it. Medical detox. Or an at home version. (Benzo’s, beer taper etc…)
Remember this:
If you lock 10 severe alcoholics and 10 heroin addicts in a room with no alcohol or heroin for 48 hours:
When you come back:
the Heroin addicts will be sober.
Some of those alcoholic will be dead.
I sobered up for good 5 years ago. Best decision I’ve ever made. If you need anything or have questions put a d in between my usernames @gmail.com.
I don’t know you but God does, praying for you brother.

I’ve been sober for over 4 months after pretty much drinking hard liquor every day(3quaters of a 5th of vodka). No sickness here. I still get some cravings once in a while but for the most part I’m not thinking about it as much. I’m 42 and very much needed to quit

Glad to hear you took the advice about medically detoxing. Definitely the smart play. I’ve seen what can happen if you don’t first hand. It’s not pretty.
