re: Anyone noticing unusual UPS late deliveries?

It's worse than normal. News articles are popping up about it.
I had a delivery go out for four consecutive days without actually being delivered. That is a common theme for complaints. UPS is claiming they'll catch up from Black Friday/Cyber week and be in better shape in the intervening weeks before Christmas.

Ordered a pair of wireless earbuds from Amazon. Delivery was scheduled for Wednesday they just arrived 30 min ago.

Yes. I've had lots of packages delayed and one has been sitting in Fort Meyers (where it originally shipped from) since November 27th. I asked for a trace on it yesterday and the customer service rep told me there's a backlog and some packages are just sitting but should eventually be delivered. That's nuts.
I had another package that was supposed to be delivered by the PO but through UPS. The tracking updated Friday to say UPS would be in my area and would deliver it instead. They didn't. It showed being scanned out of Port Allen but didn't say where. UPS had no idea either.
It was delivered last night, without the tracking ever being updated.

Yes, 3 day’s late last week. And we have package thieves in our area.

Thread title threw me off. I thought OP meant ‘late’ as in late at night. I had a truck pull into my driveway at 10:05 PM the other night. A few things coming late but nothing I didn’t expect considering so much Christmas shopping online. Those guys are busy AF and working very long hours. I kinda felt bad for the poor bastard.

Still don't believe you.
The thing is you really do believe me, but you go on lying about it just like you have your whole life when you tell all your friends you aren't gay. Sad.

I work for them.
I'm curious, have you worked for them in the past during this time of year? If so is this year worse? It just seems odd that in past years everything came on time but this year it seems to have gone to complete shite. It appears to me this year hit some tipping point that UPS was not planning for, I assume volume is going up each year.

The volume goes up every year but it’s gone up a lot this year. I know for us specifically before thanksgiving, our volume was about 12-15k a day but since then it’s gone up to about 22k this week and It’s only gonna get higher through the rest of the month.
Our facility has resorted to using Uhauls and trailers because all our trucks are in use. Idk if you’ve seen one of them in person but they’re usually filled to the max you can’t even walk in there a lot of times. And some of the routes get thrown off because we have to drop off the bigger packages so we can have walk room to even get to the others. It just takes time man.

I’ve had a lot of ups stuff get delivered by usps
UPS partnered with the USPS a while back with something called SurePost. They drop it off at the post office and the post office delivers it. No idea why.

“Last Mile” is the one of the most expensive if not the most expensive part of the delivery process. Plus it is tedious labor. Cheaper to dump on USPS than have UPS drivers deliver.

have a guy in my n'hood that's a driver. They can only work 60 hrs per week by DOT rules. They have been successful in petitioning the DOT for a temporary exemption to 70 hrs per week during certain times. But it's area specific.

Are you in BR?

At work I receive 15-40 packages a day....since Thanksgiving it’s been horrid...sometimes nothing, then 60 the next day....normal route driver not coming and replacement driver says it’s a shite show
In BR?
I'm pretty sure the BR hub across the river in Port Allen has undergone some staff changes this year.
The service in this area has been absolutely putrid since mid-summer. Lost packages, continuous "one day" delays"
It has been very bad. Has nothing to do with it being peak time of year.

That is what I figured.

Got a UPS delivery today and the guy (not the usual guy) was in a Budget rental truck.
Note, I am not really complaining, just curious as I have never had UPS be so bad with ontime delivery, holidays or not.

They are behind on capital investments and trying to catch up. They had a bean counter as a CEO for years and he refused to invest money into expanding the network. The new CEO is doing a great job just trying to play catch up.
