Yea, the OP is the epitome of why so many millennials piss people off
Sign up for a class, understand the rules and grading system on the syllabus, proceed to disregard said syllabus thinking “no way he’s really gonna fail me if I make good grades on the papers”, finds out the professor actually did what the syllabus said would happen and now he wants to appeal

Apparently, the attendance policy is for all sections at least in 1001 and 2000 according to this link. Since it is a departmental policy, I don’t see the grade being overturned.
Anyone know when this policy started? Seems extreme, but I would have abided by it. Such an easy A... no reason to mess that up.
Wow I didn't realize that extreme of a policy would be department wide. College isn't high school and the students shouldn't be treated as such

It's not special treatment. I don't disagree with the policy because it applies to me, I disagree with the policy because it's ridiculous.
This is something a high school kid says when he doesn’t get his way.
So to be clear, you didn’t adhere to said policy, and your response is that the policy is ridiculous? Then why pay to take a class with such a ‘ridiculous’ policy?

I get paid by my worth to a company, not by the time that I'm working for them.
For several jobs, these two things go hand in hand.

Time is not a variable in the equation in most instances, so why randomly assign it any sort of value out of some sort of "respect and/or lesson in the need to randomly be present in life".
I think time is a variation in MANY instances. Unless this did somehow ends up in an upper level management position, he’s going to have to be present at work...a lot.
At that point, it doesn’t matter why this was ‘randomly assigned.’ I also don’t think it was random if it was clearly explained and consistent with other university/subject policies. It’s not like college is the only time you deal with bullshite policies. It happens in the workplace too.

If they had any sense, they'll likely realize it's a stupid argument not to just push you through with the lowest possible passing grade.
So if the teacher respectfully disagrees, they have no sense?

God, I love when a thread doesn't go the way OP expected, especially when the OP deserves to get hammered.
Enjoy your "F", retaking the course, MAYBE learning a life lesson, and being less of an entitled little shite after. The real world will eat you alive if you continue with the attitude you approached that course with because there's ALWAYS someone better than you who is willing to do what you won't. By the way, THAT guy followed the department's rules, got an average of 98% on his assignments, and earned an "A" in the course you're going to fail.
Don't ever forget the lesson you're learning right now. It's far more important than what that English class taught, and the consequences of failing to learn from this lesson will be far harsher in the future.

It was 12 classes that I skipped. So just around 1/4th of them.
Jesus, man. I’m going to go a different avenue here. When I walked into class the first day and they had on the syllabus:
Attendance: 10%
Homework: 15%
I knew I was was gold because if I just showed up and do my homework correctly; I could literally get a 60 F on everyone of my tests and still get a C.
The teacher is basically giving away points in those classes.

English classes have attendance policies because they are often discussion and draft workshop driven.
While you were successful in MacGyvering together a few papers, you weren’t really part of the class.

So when you start your career do you expect to get paid when you don't show up for work? Its called the real world.

Next year
Do the opposite of what you did this semester.
Pass.

Unfortunately, the teacher can fail you based on attendance. It’s bullshite, but yeah.
ETA: Thinking back, I retract my statement. Attendance was an easy way to pass the class. We only had to do like 5 papers the whole semester. You screwed yourself.
