Does anyone think the old saying , you can take the silver or the lead won’t cross the Rio Grande . The politicians along the border that aren’t already on the take will gladly take the silver instead of seeing family members disappear or hung from the telephone poles .

I don't think that's the case at all. I think this cultish mormon bunch was willfully doing business with the cartel and things went south. Maybe drug or human trafficking. Who knows but if that's the case, it'll come out.
I don't think they were being strong armed or extorted at all. Paying protection money is simply the price you pay in a country like Mexico. It's understood.

Some people think they were mistakenly targeted. Personally, I think that's naive.
Some guy said it well a page or two back. These cartels are going to know all about these people. There's no confusing them with other mexicans.
