It’s 2025 not 1930’s with dirt roads. With all the new clean air standards I don’t even run an air filter anymore. First thing I do when I buy a new truck is remove the air filter and let that thing breathe.
Each to his own but running a daily driven vehicle without an air filter on a long term basis is a very poor plan.
The excess contaminants will increase ring wear and contaminate the oil much sooner, leading to shorter engine life.

I've run a K&N on my 99 F250 Diesel since it was new. I have 260,000 miles. There is no performance gain in running this filter(not that I can tell anyway) The reason I bought it and have continued to use it is purely basic: I have not purchased an air filter in 25 yrs. Huge savings? Nah-but a savings nonetheless. These filters were never intended to be run sopping wet . If cleaned and oiled properly the K&N performs just fine. The K&N can also handle quite a bit of debris and still filter well. A "wet" filter can be a very effective filter as long as it's used appropriately. If cleaning and oiling it is too much then it's simply not the filter for you.

Which brand is better for my future reference?
Wix, Donaldson, or OEM.

No dude...I am advocating for purchasing high performance engine air filters because they make your car go slightly faster.
I edited to take out that part. Thanks for your candor
K&N filters also improve your gas mileage?

Automobile Engine Air Filters
These are a big player in the Oil Change charge up business.

You're a 1%er.
And a reusable air filter, especially on well-maintained a diesel truck, has likely saved you several hundred dollars.

Damn so I basically got conned into spending $70 on an air filter for no reason? That sucks
Not true.
There is a reason.

This K&N filter has made a slight but definitely noticable difference in performance
No, it didn't.

No, do not try.
No air filter is a horrible idea.

Wix
NAPA

I wouldn't use k&n on today's engines. It's cool you expressed interest, something many don't.
Check out Bob is the oil guy website. Probably the best source of information out there for lubricants, filters, etc
