When that thing realizes where it is and comes out of shock, it's going to freak out and do some skin damage to whoever is near it.

This reminds me of when my dad shot a squirrel, picked it up and put it in his pouch, only to find out in the worst, most hilarious way possible that the little bastard was only stunned.

Didn't think he'd ever stop banging that vest against the tree.

Squirrels will tear up a yard. I have popped literally hundreds with a pellet gun to rid myself of the squirrel scourge.

I think a stew is better suited for squirrel rather than a roux.

Well the guy who wrote the book, snakes in Louisiana, Jeff Boundy, for one. I emailed him last year about this exact "debate" and apparently it's not such a big faux pas in the scientific community to interchangeably use the two terms as us laymen make it out to be. So take that for what it's worth.

Approximate it’s age. If it’s an infant try bottle feeding it goats milk. They will tame very quickly.

My brother raised one in the yard that would climb up his leg and ride around in his pocket. It was cool as hell. Turned it loose when it got big enough to fend for itself.

As some have mentioned, it is illegal to keep it. Here are a list of rehabbers in La, I encourage you to contact one in your area—if you’re in La—and pass it along or at least follow their suggestions. They are cute but are a good bit of work to raise, especially if any medical issues arise. I’ve had to clip teeth, treat infected eyes, pneumonia, etc. Please keep it away from domestic pets. Squirrels raised with cats and dogs—“oh, isn’t it cute” Facebook posts—cannot be released since they’ve lost fear of natural predators. To keep a full grown squirrel caged for life is a cruel act. Thanks for saving the little guy, here is the link.

No, married with 3 kids, 11 cats, a dog, and a horse. Horse lives outside.
