Hang from a bar, like you're about to do a chin-up, but just let gravity stretch your spine and strengthen your core.

Chiropractors just want you to come in every week to help them make their alimony and tuition payments. Think Allen Harper.

I don't get why it's worse when standing. Didn't do anything that I can recall to cause it.

Sounds like a herniated disc. Standing compresses the vertebrae and puts pressure on the nerve root. Lying down relieves the pressure.

I'd try a chiro for 4-6 weeks. 2-3 x/week before getting more invasive.

You don't want to be retired and have the spirit willing but the flesh weak.

Your health is your main wealth. Good luck

Has any doctor or physician mentioned tat the hip pain may be coming from the back/nerve pain? Also, is the hip pain/knee ain on the opposite side as the back pain?

It is with you for life. Learn to deal with it. Usually you can look back 3 days after the initial pain hits and you will remember something you did to set it off. Invest in a whirlpool. Hydrocodone and warm jets of water are the best for my back. Also, move around as much as you can. It actually helps the back stay loose. Just don't do any heavy lifting or pulling or sudden movements. Good luck man. You will need it.

Thanks .. it's woman and REALLY?? I honestly can't remember doing anything ... went to PT on Tuesday, did nothing out of the ordinary and then at work on Wednesday realized "crap my back hurts". Have a jet tub and that feels good but I can't live in there. Hoping it's something the PT can address on Tuesday. Hydrocodone is what I have from my knee surgery ... and thinking back this hurts more than my knee did. Glad I had leftover meds but I do not want to need that longer than I have to.

dread getting old. At my age, I know that whatever pain I get from sleeping wrong or whatever will go away in a few days at most. I'm told that once you're in your 40s, pain randomly shows up one day and more or less becomes life from that point on.

I'm a healthy 45 year old and don't normally have issues. I think I slept on the sofa Tuesday night as I was coughing a ton and didn't want to keep my husband up ... but I've done that before and didn't hurt like this.

Roscoe, no ... they said hip bursitis. Never had a day of back pain in my life that I can't attribute to leaning over "doing something" (sewing, gardening, etc). The PT said that my hip tendons, muscles, whatever else is in there is cemented together but he's doing some deep tissue massage with his thumbs and elbows and it's actually much better and not nearly as tight.

And regarding the hip, I had a torn meniscus in each knee, one with cysts. The PT was doing estim to help get the quads going and the other knee surgery will be in December. So it's not really a knee issue once this next one is fixed. Just working on some strneghtening on the post surgical knee and prehab on the one to be done.

Don't panic. Most of the time it resolves on its own with time. A lot of people have herniated discs and don't even know it.

Makes sense that as the hip muscles relax the back muscles spasm, a full evaluation is needed, but does not sound like the end of the world

Took 'middle' as meaning midsaggital. The standing bit is the kicker....very commonly associated with SI pain. OP should see a chiro for an evaluation.

Oh I realize that about not being the end of the world but it was just puzzling as to where it came from ... and really doing the kitchen cleaning after our family luncheon I wanted to just keel over. Really like the PT I'm going to ... will definitely mention it on Tuesday. Thanks.
