We are up to #14 on the state tax burden list. What are we getting for our money?

When I moved, my property taxes on my home were aboot $55/yr. This was cool with the homestead exemption. It was well known that LA had a state income tax and almost no property tax. Two years later, that same home's taxes were $300. Now it is $1800.

Can I assume the state income taxes have vanished?

In the meantime, sales taxes are around 10%. Y'all are taxed more, and receive less services, than anyone else I know.

Good luck.

Yeah, it would be one thing if we paid the 14th highest tax rates and had the 14th best roads and schools in the country.

As it stands now, we are paying fairly high taxes for a state that ranks in the bottom 3 in most standard of living measurements.

Where does that stand? It seems like it would just be thrown out as a lawsuit with no merit. To my knowledge, the proper process and laws were followed. Broome is just mad that she'll be losing a bunch of tax revenue.

Apparently state law says that surrounding cities can claim undue damage from areas incorporating and have legal standing to stop it.

Not sure if it applies here but it would be fricking horseshite if it did. BR can’t budget worth a shite and treats SE EBR parish as a colony to be exploited then gets indignant when they attempt to incorporate. Like the fricking mayor SUGGESTED when she was in the state legislature.

In Oklahoma on homesteaded property, your capped valuation can only increase 3% a year. On non-homeateaded, 5% max per year.

Now that does not include new improvements. For instance, a $30,000 shop would immediately raise your valuation by that amount.

So valuation can only increase by 3-5% and all millage increases must be approved by vote.

You are getting screwed.

I'm sure we'll be fricked if St George goes through because we live just on the BR side of the border. That being said, I still was rooting for them. Something drastic needs to happen to turn this parish around.

I’m rooting for them despite being in Zachary because I grew up there and still have family there.

That area tended to get fricked regularly because the city got cute with the borders and no one wanted to represent the interests of people living there because it was a sideshow compared to bigger neighborhoods elsewhere or all the various businesses / government agencies in the area.

This is an issue that rubs me like 80 grit sandpaper underware. My business is located to where I can watch those dam Cat buses run all day long. The bus passes once an hour and since the Chinese 19 flu they are limited to 9 passengers. I’m at work for 6:30 AM each day and the buses never have 9 passengers. CATs has to go,taxpayers cannot afford this luxury. The Libraries are nice, they should be,because they are Palaces. Does anyone check out books anymore? In this digital age we have too many libraries. Cut them by 50%. BREC owns too much land, cut it by 50 % also. EBR schools are failing the citizens of the parish . I don’t believe they can be saved or improved. Yes the buildings look great ( more palaces) but The students are being robbed. The only solution is to liquidate the public school system and just have private schools. Each parent would then get a set amount of money to pay for a private school and if Junior flunks out ,so be it. The private schools would also have tough hiring standards for hiring teachers. Something has to change because what we have now is not working. I’m seriously looking at land in the parishes north of BR.

I’d look into West Feliciana.

Most other parishes in the area, plus MS counties, are shite shows.
