Agree have had limited sightings of workers in oak forest area. Maybe that changes soon
Our flight out of HOU Tuesday (day after storm) got cancelled and we had to drive to Dallas to catch the second leg. Between Conroe and Corsicana every single hotel had at least a dozen lineman trucks in the parking lots. Also of note, getting food between HOU and DFW was impossible. Restaurants either closed, ran out of food, or had a mile long line to get fast food. Anyways, there were no shortages of linemen in the area. Seems dispatch was the major slowdown

According to the guys working in my neighborhood right now, they were told to “stand down” for the first 48 hours.

Drove in from Baton Rouge on Tuesday and there were as many linemen and tree trucks as there were personal vehicles. Bless those men who were coming to help us in the hot July weather.

It’s bad. Driven over it and pucker up each time. Luckily nobody’s got spooled up on that line.
Got power back around 2:30, back out again…. Hopefully because they’re working in the area but who knows.

Got power back in sienna today around noon according to my ring camera. 4.days. Could be a lot worse but the lack of communication is what pissed me off more than anything. Still many in the area without power.
My SiL up in the gleanloch area still without power. They have a whole home generac and it started pouring oil yesterday and shutdown. Now waiting on generac to do something.

Ok, on the infomercials, they don't mention that. Everyone seems so happy.

They’re going to be waiting a long time. Best bet is to try and self diagnose and hunt the parts down like I did earlier. I’ll fight with them in the warranty claim later. I fully expect them to tell me to get fricked but they’ll at least get an earful.

Same. Day one I stopped and turned around. Since I’ve probably run over it 50 times lol.

Thankfully, our Generac performed like a champ. We did have a neighbor that has one and it didn’t kick on when the power went out for us Monday morning. Generac had a technician at her home within 24 hours. We received an email from them today, stating they were pausing all installations and requests for new installs, so they can take care of current customers with issues and maintenance needs.

New map with dates just dropped
And it’s wrong. My section says we are energized. We are not.

The incompetence is almost impressive. You have to try to be this bad.

Just a couple of days ago we were listed as circuits repair blah. This gave me hope that some local issues to be solved. I don’t know what to think now. No AC sucks but as soon as buy a generator to run some cords the frickers will light my area.
ETA: that map sucks. Can’t read the street markings at all. Zoom in and the type gets smaller and lighter.

If I preformed this poorly at work I wouldn’t have a job. We are cutting town and coming back Wednesday. I’m hoping we have it back by then - Cheshire.

But I don’t usually lose power over a cat 1 so I didn’t think much of it at the time either.
I don't agree with, or really understand this comment. Having widespread power outages from a Category 1 hurricane, hell......even a strong and/or large tropical storm can do it, particularly in heavily populated areas with a lot of trees. So, I've just been looking at news stories from recent storms, and it is common to see similar infrastructure damage.
One example was a lowly tropical storm(at least in the area of worst impact). Remember Isaias from 2020? It rambled through the Northeast in early August after making landfall as a Cat. 1 hurricane in SC, then quickly weakened to a tropical storm.
quote:
Isaias knocked out power for more than 2 million customers across New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut after barreling through the region on August 4th. Days later, hundreds of thousands are still in the dark, and some might not have power back until August 11th. The governors of New York and Connecticut this week called for investigations into why getting power back has been so delayed.
To get closer to to home, Tropical Storm Nicholas knocked out power to over 500,000 in the same area as Barrel. With Centerpoint saying this:
quote:
The company warned that some customers may face outages for days, but also said it hoped to restore electricity to most customers much faster.
“We are dedicated to turning the lights back on and thank you for your patience as we work quickly and safely to make repairs,” the company tweeted earlier in the day.
You can make list of similar storm after similar storm that produced more or less the same damage to infrastructure.
I understand the frustration with the communication aspect of the Barrel response, but to be wholesale dismissive of a "weak" hurricane's (or tropical storm's) potential to wreak havoc on infrastructure is just kind of foolish and misleading, in my opinion.

Hurricane Ike, about 2.3 million without power.
During Ike, 75% of the properties in the region that lost electricity had power restored within 10 days. By Sunday, IF a big IF
they will have restored power to 75% to 80% of the properties within 7 days.
difference between the two storms is that Ike happened in September and this is July.
, CenterPoint really screwed the pooch in communicating both promptly and accurately
and County leadership and the fault in maintenance
means repairs are taking longer that IKE

I lived through Ike in the Heights. No power for two weeks. A tree fell pulling down the feeder line to me and two others. Power was run down the alley. We waited for them to run the “last mile”.
