I had the New Balance 1080 (I think), around $150, for years. They are on a whole other level than the cheap New Balances.

I switched to Brooks adrenaline, around $130.

I walk a lot and the Brooks have been holding up a lot better, but I also use shoe inserts for more support for both brands. I’m changing my shoes 4 times a year, not once a year.

I’m pretty sure no 990s (or any other of the made in USA line) ever hit Joes, so there’s no point in waiting.

I got a pair from that site. It was pre pandemic so I don't know if Joe's can still get the USA line.

Made in USA new balances are a good place to look

I'd like to buy NB's that are USA made but they simply don't feel good on my feet.

55 here, when you say sneakers, to me that means something of an athletic shoe that you aren't wearing running or in the gym, ie with casual dress.

My thoughts are you want something toned down, without some crazy silhouette. Herewith (1) NB 574 - very comfortable, huge variety of colorways and looks retro - silhouette is a little chunky, but still works with a variety of pant widths as well as shorts (2) NB 237, even more retro and more minimal, but is comfortable, nice variety of colors and you can make it go with anything. (3) NB 327, still retro, slimmer on the foot, but has more midsole which is flared, and has a heel wrap (4) Veja Rio Branco - step up in price, very nice quality, comfortable and great looking.

If you want some white leather sneaks, check out Koio. Made in Italy, expensive (not as expensive as Common Projects, but more comfortable if you ask me). More tennis or court shoe vive vs running shoe vibe. Quality of materials is nice and comfort is exceptional. Adidas Stan Smith Lux is little rounder, but a nice alternative - just make sure you get the Lux version, the standard version quality is terrible now.

This is a drop in the bucket, and you said you don't mind spending a few bucks. These are all quality and will last and look good in casual settings.

Joes new balance outlet online store has a lot of shoes.

At Christmas I got 3 pair under $100 shipped.

I bet they do a fathers day sale.

I got three different styles and they are all very comfortable. Fresh foam being the best for walking comfort.

The 680 is awesome for working out

I've only bought the 990s and I like them a lot.

Same. Imagine making shoes that are actually shaped like a foot. Novel concept.

Nothing says I’m a well-to-do white man who doesn’t have to worry about “style” like Hoka.
I’m pretty sure your doctor and your banker wear them. Your pool boy wears Nike.

Buy a pair of merrel hiking shoes. I finally did and won't wear anything else. These are hands down the most comfortable thing I've ever worn. I'm a bit older so I'm not running anymore and I dang sure ain't playing tennis.

I made this move, too. They take a minute to break in, but they are great.

Let’s be realistic, they were always woke. I had a pair, but I buy off clearance or off retail so they’ve had to pay markdowns at least.

LL Bean Katahdin Hiking shoe. More than likely you’ll need an insert, but they’re tough, waterproof, and very comfortable.

I’ve had Brooks, On Cloud and Altras. Altras are by far the most comfortable for me. On Cloud are solid also. I didn’t like Brooks but the heal support was good. Wouldn’t own Nike or New Balance ever again after owning the other 3 listed. Altra then On Cloud then Brooks. Than all the rest of them.
