See it a lot more on 20 between Jackson and Vicksburg than I used to

I'm surprised that our local politicians who happen to the be the #1 and #2 in DC can't allocate more money to expand the lanes on I-12 from 2 to 4 lanes on each side of highway.

I-12 needs to be 3x3 the whole way, which they’re slowly working on, and they need to replace the archaic cloverleaf interchange with I-55 with high speed flyover ramps. That would solve a lot of issues. Replace the cloverleaf interchange with Airline Highway while they’re at it.

I really don’t know what it is about I-12
Google does.

People driving like maniacs weaving in and out of traffic.
This.
Sad part is, I’ve had local police and state troopers tailgate me when I’m going 70, and they rarely stop anyone driving like maniacs.

That entire stretch of interstate should be 3 lanes. It has a lot of congestion, the median is too small, and the amount of trucks is abundant.
At least parts of the highway are three lanes, and they installed a cable barrier after one too many head on collisions/fatalities with oncoming traffic.

I have a few friends in logistics. They say that freight has moved from rail to trucks over the last 10 years due to cost. If we want fewer rigs and wrecks, there needs to be a push back to rail freight, even if it is subsidized to make rail competitive with trucking.

I-12 should be three continuous lanes from BR to the MS state line. Thus would alleviate most of the congestion and keep all trucks and trailers in the middle and right lanes. LADOTD is a fricking embarrassment and an incompetent state agency. Decades of abysmal leadership.
Wouldn’t matter. Trucks gonna do what they want. Level of service is fine.
It has nothing to do with DOTD and everything to do with governed trucks trying to pass other governed trucks, vehicles towing multiple vehicles, going speed limit or under in left lane, and people going entirely too slow on the interstate in general. It’s a people problem. Add another lane and there will be two lanes governed trucks will block instead of just one.

They really need their own lane though this area.

There needs to be a min speed and be enforced.

They'd never stay in it

Call me crazy. But what if rigs only drove from evening to morning hours
Interstate was made for trucking, commerce and military. originally they were control access of residential traffic.
Too many crappy drivers using the interstate for local trips because they can't read maps, don't know NSEW, and can only drive with a gps.
They drive the same way on the interstate as they do on the surface streets and they are regularly cutting off semis.
Add to this the Mexican in-tows, and the Mexican truckers rolling crap boxes, as well as dei truckers and it is a mess.
Lastly, the regulations on good truckers that follow the rules are outrageous and running them out of business. What you are left with is what you can imagine.

If you guys had any idea who was driving these rigs you would never drive on an interstate highway again.
The nationwide carriers are ok, they have some enforcement of the rules/laws. The regional carriers? that is who is going to kill you, they simply dont give a frick about who is driving, drug testing, rest time etc.
The last truck fatality case I worked was a regional driver out of Miss that hit and killed a 20 year old ULM student who was driving home to Shreveport. The driver was legally blind and had gotten his CDL while he was serving time at Parchman for cocaine distribution.
The driver was asleep when he hit her, he had been on the road without a break for 35 hours.

I saw somewhere it was suggested in the 70’s to build roads that ran parallel with the highway for big rigs and commercial vehicles…,
Posted on 7/28/25 at 9:09 am to upgrayedd
From Satsuma on it's like six feet wide and only two lanes

That's horrible and could be avoided.

Do they tailgate you if the left lane or right?

Tailgating is unsafe and illegal,
so its irrelevant.
P.S. if I am in the left lane and someone is closing on me fast, I always try to get over. Sometimes that isn’t possible right away.
