I'm an Eagle Scout too and I agree.
Girls were already able to join Venturing, which was already a part of Boy Scouts, and there were several girl counselors at the summer camp I used to go to.
This is a good move, and if anything it will help the scouts last farther into the future.
Girl Scouts never really seemed to be focused on the outdoor/survival skills stuff and girls that are interested in that will finally be able to participate.

Weakening masculine institutions at the core is leftism 101. They've been doing it to the Army for years now. This is the same thing in an earlier stage. First it was open homos. Now this, and changing the name is a huge win for them. This is the closest thing to taking down the Jefferson Memorial that they've gotten so far, but since most people are too comfortable to upset the apple cart (i.e. you're pussies), it will continue to get worse.
Now you know what "progressive" really means.

Girls scouts is lame program where they are made into cookie sellers and that's it. They might get. 1 day day camp in the summer.
I agree with you there. My daughter is a girl scout, and I don't think her troop has done a single activity this year, other than selling cookies.
But, the Girl Scouts being a shite organization doesn't make the next logical step the Boy Scouts accepting girls.
I see this constantly, where traditionally male organizations start accepting females. And yet we lament over the lack of masculinity in today's society. Let the boys learn and do boy stuff.

Don't they still keep the boys and girls in separate groups?
Liking the outdoors, camping etc, and doing service projects isn't limited to boys.

That's the troop leaders fault...

Right but the patrols aren't co-ed. Just troop level stuff and above.
So boys will still be boys and girls will still be girls.
And it's not like little girls don't fish, shoot, or play golf nowadays.

The organization on Wednesday announced a new name for its Boy Scouts program: Scouts BSA
Sounds like a European athletic club name.

Like Danny Etling? Josh Hart? Maybe I'm cherry picking but these are recent and went to both of the schools from which I have degrees.

What ever happened to freedom of association...?
The left, basically.
See, what happened was...the BSA has a quasi-religious undertone to it. They don't care what god you believe in, but prefer you believe in something. They also, for a very long time and mostly due to insurance reasons, forbade openly gay scout masters (they also forbade women scout masters, but that's besides the point).
Back in the good ol' days (the 1990's), the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts would recruit at local schools, camp on military bases, and hold their meetings at public schools after hours. This was good for the school as it basically added another extracurricular activity that the school didn't have to pay any money for, and the scouts typically provided lots of free labor for service projects, and it was great for the military as a recruiting tool. However, because Scouting has some deist undertones, the left organized a campaign to have public schools distance themselves from scout troops and by the mid 2000's, they were essentially banned from recruiting in public schools and no longer permitted to hold their meetings there. This was justified under the "seperation of church and state". The Boy Scouts were labeled by the left as a Christian group (despite being far from it), and given the boot from government buildings.
Forced out of the schools, most scout troops resorted to affiliating themselves with church groups. While the official policies of the BSA didn't change, by having direct connections to churches, the packs themselves became more blatantly Christian in nature.
Once Barack Obama was in office, the left then used this cozying up to churches combined with the policy against gay (and female, though they never mention this) scoutmasters and organized a campaign to have the IRS revoke their non-profit status unless they allowed gay scoutmasters. While the media started harping away on that, Barack quietly kicked the scouts out of all of the U.S. military bases, no longer permitting weekend camping and no longer permitting the scouts to hold their National Jamboree at Fort A.P. Hill, VA.
The scouts could not afford to lose their status as a not-for-profit organization, so it caved to media pressure and began allowing openly gay scoutmasters. This change in policy, predictably (and likely by the left's design), outraged the church groups that had been hosting scout troops since they had been kicked out of the schools. Now, the churches are rapidly expelling their scout troops and ending their affiliations with the organization. Without churches and schools to recruit from, scouting is dying rapidly.
This move to let in girls is likely nothing more than trying to find a way to help stabilize their dying troops by injecting new members and money into the organization, taking advantage of the fact that the girl scouts are an absolute shiite show of an organization. In fact, co-ed troops already existed in the Venture program (designed for high school and college-aged kids to go on more high adventure trips), so this isn't really that big of a change. In fact, in many countries, troops are co-ed.
When I went to National Jamboree as a scout in 2005, our troop hosted a co-ed group of scouts from Sweden (no pics, you pedo purves).
Insurance and SJW's have been dismantling scouting for decades, and I'm worried this move to allow in girls is going to result in sex scandals that will finally end the organization completely. Scouting was great for me and my friends growing up. It taught us self-reliance, discipline, and life skills that we damn sure were not going to get in public school. It was a place where teenage boys could learn about life and grow up while learning a lot about themselves. Now, it's going to be just another co-ed activity where boys are discouraged from being themselves.

I was a Cub Scout and Weblos. Hate to see the left try to kill healthy masculinity

What did you feel were the problems from the last few years?
Interested as I was an Eagle Scout and was (was) planning for my son to join.

Co-sign.
I regret quitting when I got to high school after our troop made a trip to Philmont. Philmont seemed the pinnacle scouting outside of being an Eagle Scout, and I started BSA late, so I’d have had a tough time getting there.

My older brother got to go to Philmont. It was definitely one of the coolest things he's ever gotten to do. One of the few times in his life that not having a sense of smell probably came in handy

It's up to the base an it's more a policy reaction to War on Terror.
All you have to do is call up the base and they'll tell you what you can do. It's just a spot on no longer reserved just for scouts to call up a weekend ahead and see if someone is using the grounds. Because base security.

people that explain it for scouts and help each other out post Obama.

Supposedly. I think the group can decide.
Not sure if I will try with my youngest. Part of the thing I like about my oldest being in cub scout was it was just something he could do with other boys. As long as they're still separate I'll get my youngest in it.
Also this isn't 100% caving to libs. They also have seen membership down so they needed to find more potential recruits to join.

Girl Scouts and their safe space activities aren't far off from this.
Many girls, shocking as this may be, want an actual outdoorsy, life skills experience, not the SJW training that Girl Scouts has become. These are the girls that will join Cub Scouts / Scouts BSA
