Get rid of Dumas
They just sank millions into renovating Dumas. I don't see them getting rid of it any time soon.

Nothing good is going to happen with BREC and golf under the current BREC Director. She has ZERO clue about the game and/or how to run the operation. She also isn't interested in doing any more than pretending to listen to anyones ideas. To people like that, golf is an old white man's game and she would be just as happy to see BREC out of the golf business and building basketball courts and soccer fields on the property.

You're right. But it would be nice if they figured a way to keep the practice area open. Even if it's only open during the day. Or they could always open one similar to what Toms opened in Shreveport! Private practice facility...$100k to get in! I heard that place is sweet.

No telling how much money BREC has wasted on "consultants" over the years and they are still losing money.

And the golf course is still terrible. Disappointing.

This is government speak code for "I have no idea what I am doing, so I am going to hire a consultant to cover my arse. Have him issue a report and then I will do whatever I wanted in the first place but blame him if things go awry."

If she feels that way, she obviously has never set foot on a BREC golf course. 9 out of 10 5-somes on the course are not white guys.

And that is my point. I don't think she has. The BREC golf professionals are not fans of her.

I've seen more black people at copper mill then BC, Webb, and SM.
Never played Howell so can't comment.

Haven't they spent thrown millions into renovating Dumas, City Park, and JS Clark in the last 10 years?

I see some diversity out at Santa Maria all the time.
Posted on 2/25/14 at 8:33 am to Jarlaxle
Yes. The answer from a business standpoint is simple. It's politics that keeps losing money with BREC golf.
Howell and Dumas have been bleeding money for years. Santa Maria is the cash cow that they tripped over.
Hopefully they get it all figured out.
City Park does plenty of beginner golf business. I hope they leave it alone.

The govt isn't in the business of making a profit. It is in the business of providing services. Do you think any of the BREC parks make money? Making money is not what it is there for.

All told, BREC lost $921,000 on the sport last year. Even if you back out administrative fees and the cost of new golf carts, the courses collectively lost $501,000.
what the hell are administrative fees?
