but this was a black tie optional wedding and frankly it felt very out of place and it seemed like he was just trying to show off.

The reason I hate weddings, Brides.

It's the ultimate"look at me" event for women and don't you dare outdo them

frick her. She said formal attire, he wore formal attire. Next time she needs to be more specific. Such as, "I expect all guests to show up as NPCs. You will be given your attire at the door."

Don’t military personnel have a formalwear uniform? If this was that then it’s fine

They do, it was and it was appropriate

I can’t imagine being a female and letting something like this impact me on my wedding day

If he was like some MOH winner that became the star of the event maybe I'd see her point, but I highly doubt everyone was in awe of a Marine in his blues to the extent she was truly overshadowed. If some young girls wanted to dance with him, who gives a shite, and what kind of bitch wouldn't think that was fun?

Regardless, even if he did steal the show to some extent, anyone who would make a well-mannered, polite person leave just for being too well-liked is not marriage material.

If he wasn’t IN the wedding then it’s kinda a shitty move. He must fresh out of boot.

Now if you are IN the wedding then hell yeah. Flex those dress blues

While I would never kick anyone out of an event of mine for an attire faux pas, it was indeed one. Black Tie Optional means if you do not wear a tux you wear a dark suit, white shirt and a dark tie. Marine dress blues aren't remotely that.

The entire point of black tie or other formal wear settings is so that nobody sticks out. Any military dress will stick out. I would never have thought of wearing my dress blues/whites outside a military function.

I also try to respect brides on the wedding day, it is a quite special day for them and they are highly stressed, just do as they ask.

I see both sides. Why wear your dress blues if you aren’t the one being married or the groom isn’t a Marine? At the same time, she looks like a total bitch kicking him out. He’s in his dress blues. So what? Now they won’t remember how beautiful you looked in your dress or how much fun the wedding was. They will remember how you kicked a guy out because he was dressed in a uniform.

Maybe it’s a generational thing. But I don’t see it as he was trying to “outdo” the bride. The thought of outdoing a bride on her wedding day is a foreign concept to me first of all. Secondly, I’ve always thought it was pretty common for active duty personnel to wear their dress uniform to formal occasions like weddings. Maybe things have changed?
