Been waiting to see this. Wish they had put the V8 in the -V and saved -Vsport for the V6TT version.
The sedan looks great. Short list of similar cars.

Why would the ATS-V and the CTS-V have the same engine? That would be like an M3 and an M5 having the same engine.
unless I misunderstood you.

Apparently you can ask the engineers why.

Hi Tony, love the look of the new ATS-V, especially in sedan form!
Why the Twin Turbo V6 instead of a V8 though? Hasn't the V8 been a key component of the V Series in the past?
Thanks for stopping by for our questions!

This engine won't disappoint anyone. Think about the fact that we used a 6.0L to get 400hp in the past and this 3.6L makes 455hp. I'm as much of a V8 fan as the next guy, but this is a no excuses car...

Not bad. I'd still take a Bimmer over a similarly spec'd and priced Cadillac.

I feel like everyone who says this now is basing it on information that is at least 5 to 8 years old.

I'm a bimmer fanboy, and I agree. The older M3s were dominant in their category and American cars trying to compete with them and S4s were not all that great around the track. I think recent American attempts have gotten a lot closer.

It's a nomenclature thing only. -V was introduced as the top line V8 beast. When they introduced the -Vsport in the CTS with a V6TT, everyone knew a V8 version was coming and kept the -V series "iconic" (even if only around a few years). Kinda same people groaning about the GNX having 4 doors and a V6 as well. Same as if they put a N/A V8 in a ZR-1.
I've loved the ATS since it came out, and people have raved about its chassis over and over. But the drivetrain has been exceptionally lacking. I'm incredibly excited about this car.

Lot of money for something built by GM.

I'm glad they toned down the rear end, looked too much like a wedge.

supposedly this M3 has taken a step backward in track capability compared to the E92. Yes, it's brutally fast, but it's heavier and with so much more torque it has a knife-edge personality if you're trying for a clean lap while riding the absolute limit of grip. It'll snap to overseer in a heartbeat.
Fastest regular production car BMW makes on the the Nürburgring and less than half a second slower around Hockenheim compared to the Track ready GTS....

For sure. Hell, the new GT350 has out M3d the M3 and the new M3-M4 is more muscle car now than ever.

If you've watched the Pirelli racing series, you've seen the Cadillacs dominate. Over Ferraris, Lambhorghines, Audi R8, McLarens, etc.
I know thee are modded race cars, but Cadillac has certainly learned from this and is applying that to their street cars.
I was told once by a high end used car dealership to never buy an M3. One of the mechanics there races M3s and loves them on the track, but says the street versions have way too many issues.

I had no idea they were racing these.

M3s aren't that difficult to kill. My 4dr benz will dust one.
