Duhe is pronounced "doo-way" so the H is being pronounced

The H is absolutely silent there

if the H were silent it would just sound like "doo"

find me another french word that ends in -gue and the G is silent and ill forfeit to you.

You may have a point there, but you skipped Daigre. Is it Daygr?

Know or knew all of them. Garrard the most. Monique was pretty, haven't seen her in a few years, she married?

You could call this an "Are You From Around Here Quiz." There are just a few that are outright wrong or have multiple correct pronunciations but otherwise a great compilation of difficult local names my students fricking butcher at our Metairie pharmacy.

I'd add these from Terrebone/Houma: Verrette and Gregoire.

daigle, daigre, thats all irrelevent because the families choose how to prounounce their own names. like someone said earlier, some families change the proununciation of their names to differentiate themselves from their kin. my own family has changed the spelling of our name twice over the last 120 years.

'pirogue' is not a name though, its a word and adheres to rules

Well, you need one for Avoyelles Cajuns, Lake Charles Cajuns, Lafayette Cajuns, New Iberia Cajuns, and Lafourche Cajuns, at the very minimum.

Oh, yeah, and Breaux Bridge speaks yet another dialect of Cajun.

A stretch? They both end in "gue" preceded by a vowel. Why can't they both sound the same?

Pirogue
Rodrigue

Rodrigue may not be a good example, as Rodrigue is actually Portuguese. My grandmother was a Rodrigue and we found when doing a family tree that my great, great....grandfather Rodrigue, who was Portuguese, married a French girl, moved to Canada, was expelled with the rest of the Acadians and made their way to Louisiana.

You should listen to my student from Chicago try to to say Gregoire. It wasn't easy for her.

So...you're saying Rodrigue is Cajun?

ETA Now that is a stretch
