Son ran the 400 and the 4x400. Kind of an odd length right in the middle of distance and sprint.

You don’t know how many times I’ve heard that.

Ah... yeah, typical overengineered German part.

Definitely mixed feelings. I mean I totally fixed my car from dead on the side of the road...but I’m the reason my car was dead on the side of the road. Not sure if it’s a win, or if these burns on my arm and hand are trophies for a job half-arse done. We’ll call it a draw, it could have been worse.

I fixed my car from dead on the side of the interstate...most guys would have immediately called a tow truck.
ETA: most guys would have probably had their coolant system rebuilt by competent mechanic too.

I'm all for learning to work on cars and doing what you can, it can be fun. There are some systems, though, that if things aren't going right or you don't complete a job, the car goes to the mechanic. Anything that is critical to running or safety gets fixed right. Cooling, braking, or something that renders the engine dead doesn't go half-arse, especially on a daily driver.

I love BMWs, but every one I've owned has a POS cooling system. Once it's over 100k, keep a bottle of coolant in the truck. The reservoir is especially shitty.

why did you need your wife to rescue you? reattach hose and fill radiator with water

My dad gave me an important life lesson once, "Never buy a car from somebody who said they did the maintenance themselves."

I have a stack of maintenance records from my indie, everything...mostly. If I had a garage I’d do more myself. I’ll do the front brakes soon.

You’re a savage.
The system all goes through an expansion tank (top of the photo), and there’s an internal purging system that runs when you activate it through a strange procedure.

True. It was Jackson County afterall. Lots of meth heads looking for an easy piece of arse broken down on the road

You should never admit or tell of botching a routine repair such as this. But if it makes you feel better, then maybe its worth it.

Just got rid of a 2005 BMW. Best decision I ever made. It was like an abusive relationship. I would love and take care of her and she would constantly and consistently beat me down and cost me money. Kept it wayyyyyyyy too long.
