I should have added what others said (that I agree), in that it comes down to the programs as well.

LSU has a good med school by the way.

My boss is a chemical engineer with degrees from LSU. She has an engineer from Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, and Pitt that works underneath her.

It's not always about having a brand name on your degree.

If you can get a full ride to another school with a more stable higher education environment then go

I did exactly this. I realized the main reason I wanted to go to LSU was for the student tickets. Still made it to a bunch of games but went to a school that was a better fit with my majors.

A lot of this depends on what type of scholarships you can get going out of state. If you have to take out tons of loans to go somewhere to get a similar degree, then it may not be worth it when LSU is free.

The basketball team having an average season is really having an impact on your school choice huh?

I'm not sure why someone would avoid a certain school just because they have good sports teams.

I dated a girl at LSU who never attended one sporting event and I heard she ended up going to Vandy for grad school. On the other hand, I had a friend who could have gone almost anywhere, but didn't want to go to a big school and a solid football program was important to her, so she ended up at TCU.

In other words, someone should choose a school because they like it, not just because it has a reputable name.

Who you know, and how well you interview. But that's a whole other topic.

I think this is a very, very misguided thought process, unless you want to not move back to Louisiana. If you plan on working in Louisiana, LSU engineering is perfect

If money isn't an issue Id steer everyone they asked to TU over LSU. The college experience is nearly the same. But living in nola is 100 times better than BR. You can always drive to BR a couple saturdays in the fall. A degree that holds more weight at TU. More of the school population isn't louisiananians.

Eta: and the ugly females at TU is a myth. There is PLENTY of smokes walking around campus the past 3 semestesrs. And it seems like the guys are even more lame so less competition. Also the girls from the NE, CA, FL all seem to put a littl more stock in how they look for class instead of the garbage the females wore when I was at LSU

LSU is good enough school to allow you to do anything you would want. The rest of it is up to the individual.

And on the flip side of that, an LSU student can just drive an hour to hang out in New Orleans.

Bingo.

ETA: Tulane does not hold some magical powers that would make a student better than he/she would be at LSU. That's bullshite.

Visiting a city is in no way like living in a city. Not even close.

Also there is people from all over it clicks from all over La going to LSU at the same time and it seems to make the TU people much more approachable and making easier friend with any creed/breed

Real talk Tino, not sure how many Jewish friends you have, but they are some cool arse fricks. I have nothing bad to say about any Jewish friends I have or know.

Here we go with New Orleans vs Baton Rouge.

Both suck because they're in Louisiana.
