Not if your primary role is estimating, unless of course you are the head of estimating, but at 7 years experience not likely.

Are you trying to say estimators make less than PM?

In what capacity and at what revenue? You could be underpaid or spot on depending on those

Can only speak to industrial as that is where my experience lies but aside from being an estimating manager of sorts, the average estimator makes less than the average project manager.

You boys should have gotten that engineering degree, same project manager jobs but way better pay and hours.

Seriously some of you, especially the op, are way way under paid.

Have a friend right now that works for a bigger gc, no travel and no it and makes 140k a year in LC area.

I was working for specialty civil company for a long time and the PM's with CM degrees with 5-10 years experience where making 85k salary plus benefits plus 700/month truck.

Does everyone in this thread go around telling people what they make in person? It seems a lot do and over my very long career I know one thing is true. Anyone that tells me what he/she makes is lying on the high side.

I find income to be a very personal thing and I’m a very private guy. The few times I’ve been asked I’ve told them it is none of their business. My wife and myself are the only ones that know our true income. And that includes the federal government and our accounting firm.

Doesn’t anyone keep their private business private anymore?

I'm thinking about asking for a raise at my current job and wanted some input on what I should be asking for or if I'm getting paid like I should be.

Info:
Bachelor CM LSU 2012
Been working at small GC in BR since 2013
So been here for 6 years.
Last raise was 3 years ago.

Making 60k,plus 600/mo truck+cell check
5k bonus every dec.

No profit sharing / 401k plan
No health benefits (I just buy thru marketplace)

I love the job, we do about 3-5 mil in projects a year. I do the estimating, about 40% of the project management, and go to progress meeting etc..

What should I be looking for or how much am I underpaid?

If anyone wants to chat about it but wants privacy:
golddigger2828@gmail.com

TIA

I made more than that last year selling carpet without a degree. I also had a company vehichle and worked 8:30-4pm

I quit, took a month off and now am on track to hit 80k working mostly from home.

I don't usually discuss mine and I wasn't in the above, but I knew theirs as they worked for me.

But in general in engineering and PM usually do discuss because it's highly competitive and firms and plants are competing for the best talent.

Hey PipelineBaw, you work union or non-union?

Non-union.

I'm on the survey side, our engineer unions in the south are complete crap. No space for newcomers or anyone that isnt wanting to become an engineer. Love field work too much for that life

Wait there are engineering unions???

Why in the frick would an engineer join a union? It would be stupid.

1) engineers especially in the petrochem areas are compensated extremely well and it's a very very competitive market on the firm/plant side to get the good ones. Joining a union would eliminate most of those opportunities.

2) half of the engineers suck fricking major arse. Why on God's green earth would I agree to a pay structure that rewards only on experience and lisences? That would hold the good ones back in pay and prop up the good ones. This happens in every union, but in engineering you don't have limited opportunities and can jump to another place easy for more money.

A union for engineers is the dumbest thing I have ever heard of. If you are good, you can name your price essentially.

Exactly my point. I've never been about the union mentality, much less for a job that shouldnt ever require one.

Cm grads from LSU can make industrial level money (or more) in residential. Just get with the right company and be willing to move out of Louisiana. I have colleagues all over the country on the pm level making 80-100 k with opportunity for 30-40 percent of salary in bonuses. Full benefits. Someone with your qualifications should be able to get your foot in the door and make a 30 percent bump out of the gate.

Get with a recruiter who specializes in residential pms and let them do the hard work for you.

A qualified/ experienced Commercial Project Superintendent can name his price right now in this market. My company could hire six of them today with packages @ 100K/ year in South LA if we could find them.
