This. If we’re still at $10/lb by March 1st then we can riot.
Also regarding Willie’s, the boiled seafood there sucks when it used to be the best place in BR for crab. No idea what happened but they forgot how to boil.

EBT shouldn’t buy crawfish. Or many other items.

Really? I personally know a few people who have farms in the vicinity of, well let's say, Acadiana, and they have all told me the feds have no clue how much money is not reported. And these guys are a huge distributor throughout the south. It's nothing but a cash cow.

Do y’all think crawfish are something you should pay for to eat?

The drought caused them to have to use more water to fill the pounds and they are producing less crawfish.
Did the spillway completely dry up?
Farms may have some issues that depend on irrigation and rainfall but the spillway should be fine once that part of the season starts.
It is still way too early for crawfish and the prices are always high right now. That is like reporting with a stunned face that the sky is blue.

The crawfish mafia lobbied for this and hands were greased. Those “gimme 1 lb and pu sum estra spice n dere” orders add up.

lol you don’t know shite
Crawfish have become a commodity crop like rice/soybeans, etc that is certified with the usda
Cash has been getting less and less the last 10-15 years
When the farmers got the Covid payments everyone had to show their numbers, records to usda, irs

When you pond farmers going to get us some bugs down here in the Nola area?
Posted on 1/6/24 at 10:33 am to 3deadtrolls
Crawfish weren't even a going concern outside of poor cajun communities until the 60s when Louisiana's board of commerce started an ad campaign. They're over rated.

You can get boiled but just about impossible to get live bugs anywhere around here right now.

I’ve been crawfishing for over 20 years and I can honestly say this has been the worst start ever. People can get in a tizzy all they want, but that’s the truth the most I’ve ever gotten paid out the field was $4.50lb, right now I’m getting $6.50lb and I’m still losing money after bait and labor. It’s not a good situation all around. The best advice I can give is if you don’t want to pay $11-$12lb for boiled crawfish don’t. It will come down throughout the season but don’t expect it to drop fast. Heck it might still be $7-$8lb during lent when in years past it’s usually $5-$6lb. This season will have little supply compared to years past. I know it’s not what everyone wants to hear but it’s the truth
