My dad was born in 1928 on a farm with no running water or electricity. He always said although they didn't have it bad for times, with enough to eat and a house to stay warm, everyday it was a struggle to survive.
My Dad was right behind yours. I have posted before, Dad was 1 of 10 born into a literal dirt floor shack on a cotton farm outside Mangham. Knew he wanted to be a Civil Engineer so he volunteered for the USArmy COE and sent his $ home for college. Served 3 years in Germany rebuilding from WWII rather than getting drafted to Korean War and came home to find his family spent his $ keeping the farm and family afloat.
So since only a little $ was left he used it for building supplies and built his parents the only home with floors they ever had(his oldest SIL died in the house a couple years ago and it’s still very livable today. His eldest sister moved to AK before it was a state and outlived 4 husbands and 5 children including infant twins to the flu epidemic that the Iditarod commemorates the delivery of vaccine to Anchorage.
I am here as a testament to how tough that and previous generations were. They wouldn’t argue with fools about inconveniences, they would bury them and continue on.

There is a certain segment of society that uses the term “skurry” when they really mean “scared.”

Ohhh really?! My bad, didn't mean to come across as a dick.
The other day I used the term "out of pocket" to imply that I was going to be unavailable. Someone brought it to my attention that that saying has a different meaning now Haha

Just a few years back, Chris Mcandless met a similar fate in Alaska.

One would think they could have live off of their fat stores.
I've a read lot about Andersonville Prison during the Civil War. Several of the survivors talked about how it was the bigger, fatter prisoners who seemed to suffer the worst from starvation and ended up dying sooner than the rest. Not sure why, maybe the need for food was stronger due to their size, metabolism levels.
