Keep them involved in scouts as much as you can. The sole purpose of cub scouts is to get them into boy scouts, via age-appropriate activity.

I attained the rank of Eagle Scout, but they don't think I'm good enough anymore because I'm no longer religious.

Doesn't stop them from asking me for donations though...

Istrouma Council checking in. Scouting in BR in the early 90s was great.

My dad is an Eagle Scout. I was in it until 6th grade or so and succumbed to the peer pressure to drop to fit in at school. Still regret not finishing.

Life Scout here. I regret not getting my Eagle because it was so fricking close. Just had to get the easiest fricking Meerut badge of all time and do the final project.

But i hated it. The only reason I I started in the first place was because my dad was an eagle scout and loved his time with them.

Once he saw what the scouts have turned into though,he didn't care anymore.

He said his troop in the 1950s was from all walks of life. Rich, poor, Christain, Muslim, and Jewish. He hated that it had become (at least where we were) super fundamentalist had had seemed to turn into a political organization

I am an Eagle Scout and at the age of 40, it still is on my resume and I can't tell you how many positive things, career wise, it has afforded me.

Pretty sure my mom sold my Philmont patch.

Philmont is a trip I'll treasure for the rest of my days. Hiking up Mt. Phillips and the tooth of time was a phenomenal experience.

I'll also never forget the day I was really hungry and asked for 2 helping of the black beans and rice, which was the worst dish we had there, and having to force that shite down throat cause they wouldn't let me throw it out. That was the worst day.

You're still an Eagle. They didn't come strip you of your award or cross you out of the records did they?

Someday I think the organization will actually live up to the "any boy can join" slogan, especially now that they are allowing gay leaders. When the top two chartering organizations for troops are the Mormons and the Catholic church, it's not too surprising that there is such a push against atheism. But now that they allow gays...who knows?

They will accept deists and agnostics, as well as any other faith. No atheists, though, but if you were to play along and do the requirements for the Duty to God part, it wouldn't make a difference.

Eagle Scouts have to be in the top 1% range of high-achievers/quality people, in my experience.

I believe that, when I was a kid I didn't think much of it, but some of our greatest 'Mercans were Eagle scouts, lots of guys that I work with that are pretty accomplished dudes were Eagle scouts
